TOA Overview:
In Spanish class, we are celebrating “el día del amor y la amistad.” First, you will read a poem about some people who could be your friends. After reading the poem, you are going to talk to one of your classmates about the friends you each have in your neighborhood. You will talk about who your friends are, what their personalities are like, and what you like to do together. Finally, you will write a letter to an E-pal telling him/her what you and your friends do together, and asking about his/her friends and what they do together.

Description of Task: For Spanish class we are celebrating el día del amor y la amistad (love and friendship day). Read a poem about some people who could be your friends. After reading the poem answer the following questions.
Materials Needed: poem handout, worksheet
Teacher Notes: The teacher spends 15 minutes in the preparation phase the day before the test. (Questions are below).

Description of Task: After reading the poem you are going to talk to one of your classmates about different kinds of friends you each have. Use the pictures to have your conversation. Ask each other the following questions:
Who are your friends?What do you do with your friends?What are your friends like? (physical, personality traits)
Materials Needed: pictures of community workers, pictures of personality traits, and pictures of families doing different activities.
Teacher Notes: Students will look at picture prompts. They will have a conversation about friends asking and answering the above questions. (The teacher may prefer to have play the role of the classmate in order to get more language from the students.)
