FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH

Welcome in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Bibles (blue cover) and hymnbooks (brown cover) are provided for your use.

A nursery is available in the lower hall for infants and toddlers.

Washrooms are also located in the lower hall.

If you wish to have a cushion or hard of hearing headset, please speak to one of the ushers who will be happy to obtain these items for you.

We invite you to complete one of the blue Visitor Cards in the pew rack and place it in the offering plate toward the end of the worship service. This will help us get to know you better!

Please silence cell phones and other electronics. Speak softly, move slowly and allow each one present to listen for God’s voice.

Many people have allergies to fragrances and perfumes, so we try to keep our church a scent-free zone in consideration of the health and wellbeing of others! Thank you!

Should you wish to have someone pray with or for you, today’s Deacon-on-Duty will be pleased to meet with you following the worship service. Please come to the front, west side pew.

Perhaps this prayer may help you begin your preparation today: “God, You reveal beauty to us if we will open our EYES to see it. God, You reveal truth to us if we will open our MINDS to accept it.

God, You reveal love to us if we will open our HEARTS to receive it.

God, you reveal wonder to us if we will open our ARMS to embrace

it. May we live each day with open EYES, open MINDS, open HEARTS and open ARMS always open to a message from you, O God.

Amen.”

ALL SING: “He Lives” (Chorus Only) Congregation

He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today! He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.

He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!

You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart.

Unison Invocation Congregation O God, Creator of the universe and the giver of all good, we praise You for the love shown in our Saviour, Jesus Christ. He

came from glory. He died, and was rejected on a cross. He rose, triumphant from the dead. Because He lives, we live. Because

He lives, we are here today to worship and to call upon Your name. We wait upon Your blessing. Amen!

*Hymn of Praise “Christ is Risen” Congregation (Tune: Beecher – “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling” #92)

Christ is risen, Christ is living, dry your tears, be unafraid! Death and darkness could not hold Him, nor the tomb in which

He lay. Do not look among the dead for One who lives forevermore;

Tell the world that Christ is risen, make it known He goes before.

Alleluia, alleluia! Through the love of God we’re free! Alleluia to the Saviour who has won the victory!

Alleluia to the Spirit, fount of love who sanctifies! Alleluia, Alleluia! Lift God’s praise up to the skies!

Children’s Moment Joel Russell-MacLean

Hymn of Praise “In Christ Alone” Congregation There in the ground His body lay, Light of the world by

darkness slain; Then bursting forth in glor’ous day, up from the grave He ROSE

again. And as He stands in victory, sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,

For I am His and He is mine; bought with the precious blood of Christ.

THE WORD OF GOD PROCLAIMED

*Hymn of Assurance “O Sons & Daughters, Let Us Sing” Congregation (Tune: St. Catherine – “Faith of Our Fathers” - #279)

When Thomas first the tidings heard, how they had seen the

Risen Lord. He doubted the disciples’ word, he could not see; his faith was

blurred. O sons and daughters, let us sing to Jesus Christ, our Risen

King.

“My pierced side, O Thomas see; my hands, my feet, I show to thee;

Not faithless but believing be. I died for you upon the tree.”

O sons and daughters, let us sing to Jesus Christ, our Risen King.

No longer Thomas then denied; he saw the feet, the hands, the

side; “You are my Lord and God,” he cried. I cast my unbelief aside.

O sons and daughters, let us sing to Jesus Christ, our Risen King.

Sermon “Do You See – Do You Believe?” John Nelson

Gift of Music “I’ve Just Seen Jesus” Recording We knew He was dead. “It is finished”, He said. We had watched as His life ebbed away. Then we all stood around ‘til the guards took Him down; Joseph begged for His body that day. It was late afternoon when we got to the tomb, wrapped His body and sealed up the grave. So I know how you feel, His death was so real, but please listen and hear what I say:

CHORUS I’ve just seen Jesus, I tell you He’s alive! I’ve just seen Jesus, our precious Lord, alive! And I knew He really saw me too, as if ‘til now I’d never lived. All that I’d done before won’t matter anymore. I’ve just seen Jesus, and I’ll never be the same again!

It was just before dawn. She was running along, barely able to see where to go. For the tears in her eyes and the dusky sunrise seemed to cloud up her vision so. It was His voice she first heard, those kind, gentle words, asking what was her reason for tears. And she sobbed in despair, “My Lord is not there.” He said, “Child, it is I, I am here!”

CHORUS (repeated)

RESPONSE TO THE WORD AND RETURN TO THE WORLD

*Hymn of Response “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”Congregation (Tune: Duke Street – “Jesus Shall Reign”)

I know that my Redeemer lives: What joy the blest assurance

gives!

He lives, He lives, who once was dead; He lives, my everlasting Head!

He lives triumphant from the grave, He lives eternally to save,

He lives all glorious in the sky, He lives exalted there on high.

Prayers of the People

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy

kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we

and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Our Gifts & Offerings Christa Walsh

*Response Of Praise “Praise the Lord” Congregation Praise the Lord from whom all blessings flow. He has washed and made me white as snow. I’m redeemed from all my sin and

shame. Now and forever praise His holy name! Praise His holy name! Praise His holy name! To God be the glory, now and

forever, praise His holy name!

Benediction John Nelson And now, as you go from this place of worship, go with the presence of the resurrected Christ, go with the power of the Holy Spirit, go with the Word of God dwelling in you richly, go with the love for one another, which Christ commands, and the love of God, the JOY of the Holy Spirit, the PEACE that Christ gives will be yours. Alleluia Amen!

LEARNING FOR LIFE

“Living Faith From Hebrew Words” – facilitated by Annabel Robinson Who hasn’t known hard times? In my personal experience I’ve been sustained by some great truths from the Scriptures, particularly the Psalms. This class invites you into a conversation about faith and doubt, security and fear, hope and despair.

We’ll base the discussion around some foundational ideas that come again and again in the Bible, exploring the richness of some Hebrew words that have no simple English translation. These words will include the Hebrew ideas that are translated love, covenant, faith/faithfulness, mercy/compassion, truth, peace, righteousness/justice, humility, grace. These are qualities of God. We’ll invite you to share testimonies of how these words of Scripture have sustained you in practice. We’ll go to look at the way these ideas are picked up and enriched in the New Testament. We’ll consider how God calls us to live out these qualities in our own lives.

It’s my prayer that you’ll come away from this study with a fresh understanding of the grace that infuses the Old Testament as well as the New. I pray that you will be encouraged and helped in your prayers and in everyday life.
