A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth center in South Central Los Angeles. APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, and fitness opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them. Our goal is to increase the likelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active citizens capable of making positive change in the world in which they live. (www.apch.org ) SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Conductor of Music Programs (CMP), the Music Instructor is responsible for providing general music education in classroom and individual settings, assisting members with performance preparation, and tracking member progress and attendance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The General Music Instructor assumes the following responsibilities: Design and implement high quality and engaging exposure based music curriculum for different ages (elementary, middle school, high school) and levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) Lead classroom management and team building through music and music activities, provide instruction and offer projects in a group setting Facilitate individual or small group instruction Conduct and track qualified member assessments with the Berklee PULSE method (online learning resource with training provided) Track member attendance and progress; prepare and submit reports Assist department staff in preparing member assessments, correspondence and data entry Chaperone members on department and agency field trips Support staff in preparing members for participation in special projects, performances and events (i.e. agency fundraisers, festivals, etc.) Mentor through actions and behavior in observing dress code, language, and observance of organizational policies and procedures Reach out to parents to encourage participation and attendance at orientations, recitals, performances and informal sessions Collaborate with agency departments (i.e. Dance, Digital Media, Art, etc.) Regularly participate in agency wide meetings, professional development activities, on and off site training, and instructional meetings , etc. 1 | Page

QualificationsTo perform this important job successfully, the Instructor must be able to fulfill all of the elements of the job description to the highest standard and be able to work well with colleagues in a high energy, collaborative environment with open communication. Education/Training/Experience Music Degree preferable but not required or proof of equivalent training in related field preferred 3-5 years providing classroom or group instruction to youth ages 8 and older

Physical and Mental Demands Able to work in dynamic, high noise level environment typical of a youth center Walking, standing for several hours per day Lift up to 30 pounds regularly Speech and hearing within normal ranges; speech clarity sufficient for standard face to face and telephone

communications Use of hands for typing, data entry, moving and loading sound equipment and musical instruments Music Department classes are Monday through Saturday, some weekends and evenings activities, with some

local travel as circumstances require

Additional Information Must be willing to be flexible and available for night and weekend performances
