Africa is the European Union’s natural partner and neighbour. Together we can build a more prosperous, more peaceful and more sustainable future for all. The European Union’s contribution towards a Strategy with Africa proposes to build partnerships in five key areas to tackle together the challenges of the 21st century. It builds on an ongoing dialogue with the EU’s African partners and will be taken forward in the next European Union-African Union Summit in Brussels in autumn 2020. ACTION Substantially increase environmentally, socially and financially sustainable investments that are resilient to the impacts of climate change; to promote investment opportunities by scaling up the use of innovative financing mechanisms; and to boost regional and continental economic integration, particularly through the African Continental Free Trade Agreement. Attract investors by supporting African states in adopting policies and regulatory reforms that improve the business environment and investment climate, including a level-playing field for business.     ACTION• Adapt and deepen EU support to African peace efforts through a more

    structured and strategic form of cooperation, with a particular focus onregions where tensions and vulnerabilities are the highest.

    • Integrating good governance, democracy, human rights, the rule of law andgender equality in action and cooperation.

    • Secure resilience by linking humanitarian, development, peace and securityinterventions at all stages of the cycle of conflicts and crises.

    WORKING TOGETHER TO IMPLEMENT THE PARTNERSHIP

    A PARTNERSHIP ON MIGRATION AND MOBILITY

    ACTION• Strengthen the international rules-based order and the

    multilateral system, with the United Nations at its core.

    • There are currently 10 EU Common Security and DefencePolicy missions in Africa

    • The EU has contributed €253.6 million to the G5 Sahel JointForce to combat terrorism and security threats and improveregional security

    • The EU has provided €3.5 billion through the African PeaceFacility since it was established in 2004, including €2.4billion since 2014.
