    A note from the Editor…

It feels like only yesterday we were writing about Festival and how

exciting it was to be heading into the Summer. It’s unbelievable that a new

season is upon us and the school year has just started for another term.

The month of September marks the beginning of a new chapter and a fresh start.

Whether you are moving up a year at school, transferring to secondary school,

heading to university, starting a new job or retiring– September is the month for

new horizons, new goals and new beginnings.

We at ARCHES understand this and therefore try to offer as many new courses in

September as we can. Check out our list of upcoming courses which starts on

    page 12.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Tidy Randalstown on their

achievements over the Summer. The town is looking amazing; the best it has ever

been thanks to the work of Tidy Randalstown and their many dedicated

volunteers. We are awaiting eagerly with fingers crossed the results of the

‘Britain in Bloom’ and ‘Pride of Place’ competitions - Randalstown most

    definitely deserves to win!

Don’t forget to check out the answers to the Festival “Train Your Brain”

challenges and best of luck with this issue.

Now grab your cuppa, sit back, relax and enjoy the read!

  • Another Randalstown ARCHES Community Festival has now came to an end and we are pleased to

report it was a very successful year with over 50 events held across 10 days—there really was

    something for everyone!

Festival is only made possible by the help and support of our volunteers, sponsors and local groups

and traders so we would like to take this opportunity to say a huge ‘THANK YOU’!

Some of the new events this year included “Art on the Wall” and the ‘Charity Classic Car Rally’ by

The Old Forge, ‘Wine & Cheese Evening’ in Randalstown Rugby Club, ‘Quiz Night’ by Randal

Community Shed and the ‘Winnie the Pooh Exhibition’ run by Canon Derek Kerr. Of course we still

had the old favourites such as the popular Family Fun Cycle hosted by Old Bleach cycle Club and the

Slow Bike Ride sponsored by Grahams Opticians which both had great turn outs despite the rain!

The Duck Race also had its fair share of rain but thankfully this didn’t put people off which added to

the excitement of seeing which duck would make their way to the end first. The Street Games this

year included a variety of games, sweets and treats, charities and an appearance from the Iron

Throne! The senior citizen’s had a great day on their Mystery Tour—they took a tour of the Antrim

Coast road and visited the Glenarm Castle and Walled Garden followed by food and entertainment at

The Londonderry Arms, Carnlough. The day also included a raffle with donations from local traders

and residents— everyone went home with something so a massive thank you for the generous

donations and we hope everyone enjoyed their prizes from the raffle.

Despite the rain being on and off the most of the week, the sun shone through for the Gymkhana—

hosted by the Mid Antrim Branch of Pony Club and the Dog Show - hosted by Mid Antrim Animal

Sanctuary. We were pleased to see such a great turn out of horses and dogs and the winners were

very happy with their trophies and colourful rosettes.

Next year, 2020 is ARCHES’ 25th Anniversary so keep an eye out for an extra special Festival

extravaganza! - and of course if you have any ideas for new or improved events please get in touch

    [email protected]

Check out the following pages for some fun festival photos—do you see any familiar faces?
