Prayer of Confession

Assurance of Pardon

Lord of compassion and mercy, you give back to us what we fear is lost beyond recall: may your word resound to the limits of our grief and life arise in place of despair; through Jesus Christ, to whom all is entrusted. Amen.

Collect

V: God of Love:

R: Show us the Way.

PS 72 A new commandment Arr. Andrew Moore

Refrain:

A new commandment I give unto you: that you love one another as I have loved you, that you love one another as I have loved you.

1. By this shall all know that you are my disciples if you have love one for another. By this shall all know that you are my disciples if you have love one for another.

2. You are my friends if you do what I command you. Without my help you can do nothing. (Repeat)

3. I am the true vine, my Father is the gard’ner.

Abide in me: I will be with you. (Repeat)

4. True love is patient, not arrogant nor boastful;

love bears all things, love is eternal. (Repeat)

And God says: I will offer you more than you need, ╬ for my forgiveness is endless, my love for you, infinite, my care for you, vast, my compassion, beyond words. Know of this new way of living and shape the world in love. Thanks be to God. Amen

With open hands and hearts ready to receive, we place our trust in you, O Faithful One. You protect us when we are vulnerable, help us find satisfaction for our deep longings, offer us freedom from the binding chains of our past, and lift our discouraged spirits.

We are grateful for your goodness revealed through ordinary means (pause).

Yet sometimes we grab more than our fair share and at times we are reluctant to extend your goodness to others.

We speak honestly with you now about the times we missed an opportunity to be compassionate and generous, as you are compassionate and generous to us (pause). Amen. Today’s Readings & Ministers

AA 78 Jesus come to our hearts

1. Jesus come to our hearts like falling rain: come to refresh, come to renew, wash all our sins away

2. Spirit come to our hearts like rushing wind: come with your fire, come with your life, blow all our doubts away.

3. Father come to our hearts like shining sun: come to reveal, lighten your Word, drive all our gloom away

4. Glory be to the lamb that once was slain: praise for his life, praise for his death, praise that he lives again.

5. Praises be to our God, the three in one: praise for the sun, praise for the wind, praise for the falling rain.

NJ 41 Come to the Water

Refrain: Come to the water , you who are thirsty Though you have nothing, I bid you to come and be filled with the goodness I have to offer

1. Why spend your money on what cannot fill the emptiness deep in your heart? Listen to my word and you will enjoy goodness and peace in your heart!

2. Just as the heavens are high above earth, my ways and thoughts beyond you! Call me your father and know I am near! I will be father to you!

3. Just as the rain falls to water the earth, just as a seed becomes bread, my word upon you can never return until my longing is filled.

Go and live generously in love, trusting that God’s love will never run out and that there’s enough for the whole world. Full of Spirit we go to be courageous ambassadors of compassion into a world so loved by God. AMEN

Church Carpets

We’ve had a carpet layer here this week past taking some of the folds out of Saint Georges carpets. Some of the folds (created by stretching when moving caskets and the piano) are a hazard to building users. The Vestry has been trying for many months to secure a trained expert to repair that damage as Health and Safety is much more stringent since the new Bill came into force at the beginning of May. Gary Blake and the Vicar are off to a local seminar next week (June 14). We’re lucky that an extra workshop has been created for the Coromandel area.
