Monday 26th January 200912.00 Registration opens

12.00 – 13.00 Light lunch

13.00 – 13.15 Opening remarks from the Chair

Ron Goudsmit, Chairman, European Casino Association

Sessions moderated by Hermann Pamminger, Corporate Head of Marketing, Casinos Austria International

13.15 – 13.45 European regulatory developments

What are the current regulatory trends in the EU with regard to the gaming industry? What effects will these trends have on the casino industry in particular? What will be the important dates and meetings at an EU level concerning gaming in the upcoming year? In this incisive session, we bring together operators, politicians and lawyers at the forefront of monitoring and influencing change in Brussels.

Ron Goudsmit, Secretary Executive Board, Holland Casino and Chairman, ECA

Representatives of the Council of the European Union and European Parliament to be confirmed

13.45 – 14.15 Smoking bans: Case studies from across Europe

In a practical examination of the impact smoking bans have had on casinos across Europe, we will hear frank assessments of the effects on visitors and profits, and receive best practice recommendations from operators with first-hand experience of smoking bans. What can operators facing the introduction of such a ban learn from those who have already gone through the experience?

Matthias Hein, Spokesman, DeSIA, CEO, Spielbank Schleswig Holstein and ECA Board Member Wolfgang Bliem, CEO, Grand Casino Luzern

Stamatis Diavatidis, New Projects Manager, Club Hotel Loutraki and Vice President, Grand Casino Belgrade

14.15 – 14.45 Money laundering: Fact, fiction and best practice

A contentious issue, it is not always easy to distinguish the fact from the fiction regarding the extent to which casinos are implicated in money laundering. In this hard-hitting session, Johan van Kastel will provide an insight into how casinos can effectively prevent money laundering in their operations and look at how recent money laundering regulations have affected current casino business models. For a fascinating “outside industry” view, we will also hear from Nick Kochan, a respected journalist and author of a book on money laundering and several articles on the place of terrestrial and online casinos in this global phenomenon.

Johan van Kastel, VP, Security and Risk Control Holland Casino Nick Kochan, journalist and author of “The Washing Machine: Money, Crime and Terror in the Offshore System”

14.45 – 15.15 Responsible gaming: latest projects and progress

At the heart of any respected casino group’s policy, responsible gaming practices continue to evolve. In this session, we will hear from two of the most prominent names in this field as they discuss their perspectives on this issue and their latest projects. Mark Griffiths will report on GAM-GaRD - a social responsibility tool that can be used by game developers, responsible gaming personnel and game regulators to identify the structural and situational characteristics of the games that present the greatest risks for excessive play. Pieter Remmers will give a broader overview of the current state of play for Resposible Gaming around Europe: what has been achieved and where work still needs to be done.

Dr. Mark Griffiths, Professor of Gambling Studies, International Gaming Research Unit, Nottingham Trent University Pieter Remmers, Director, Assissa Consultancy Europe and Executive Committee Member, European Association for the Study of Gambling (EASG)

15.15 – 15.30 Afternoon tea

15.30 – 16.00 Riding the Texas Hold’em wave

We focus on one of the biggest gaming phenomenon in recent years. The popularity of Poker continues to grow, but is it really a money maker for a casino? We assess how Poker is really affecting the bottom line. We also look at the growing trend of Poker tournaments and how off and online poker operators are increasingly collaborating in these events. Two operators, Thomas Kellner of Casino Copenhagan and Marco Deen of Holland Casino will describe the European Poker Tour and the Master Classics of Poker respectively, and discuss how such cooperations can produce a win-win situation for all concerned.

Thomas Kellner, Managing Director, Casino Copenhagan

Marco Deen, Poker Team, Holland Casino

16.00 – 16.30 Technology CEO panel

Senior representatives from leading casino supplier companies will discuss the latest market trends and technological developments and showcase the products that will be taking centre stage on their stands at this year’s IGE. They will also offer their prognosis for industry developments in 2009 and beyond.

16.30 – 17.00 Player loyalty

U.S. casinos spend much of their marketing dollars on player loyalty, but how important is player loyalty for European casinos? What kinds of loyalty systems are already in place and which of these really work? Are the US-made programmes right for the European market? What are the conflicts between loyalty strategies and responsible gambling efforts? In this session, Benjamin Chilcott will look at this issue from the perspective of a loyalty

programme expert who has worked with many leading casinos. We also hear from Mark Banks who will describe the creation and implementation of a loyalty programme tailored to the needs of his local market in Serbia.

Benjamin Chilcott, Managing Director, Iris Concise Iris Concise created the “Fortune” loyalty programme for Gala Casinos (the first UK programme under the 1968 UK Act), “Aspire” for Aspers (first under the 2005 Act) and “Odds On!” for Ladbrokes. They have also worked with Betfair, Mecca, Gamesys and Sportingbet.
