Saint Agnes School News

Celebrating 125 Years of Academic Excellence

The Saint Agnes School fifth grade class celebrated Colonial Day on Friday May 12, 2017. The students dressed in period attire, made colonial crafts,

watched a Red Coat reenactment, learned about early medical practices from Dr. John Warren, who founded Harvard Medical, and finally enjoyed a colonial era dinner. Special thanks to all the parent and teacher volunteers who worked so tirelessly to make this day great!

The Blessed Mother Statue in our School foyer has been given a new lovely marble pedestal. The Carrara marble table was handmade by Santino Gemellaro, and donated by International Stone of Woburn. Joanne and Santino Gemellaro are the owners of International Stone and grandparents of K1 student, Joseph Zuccaro. We are most grateful for this beautiful gift.

Registrations for next year have been mailed. Please return them in a timely fashion so that we can make plans for the Fall. New students must be registered in person. Please bring the Baptismal Certificate (if not Baptized at Saint Agnes) to the Office of Religious Education in the Parish Center. Office hours are Monday through Thursday 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM or by appointment.

First Communion is a two-year program beginning in Grade One.

Thank you to all who volunteered this year; you are a gift to the Parish, families and children.

Jesus says to us: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments…..Whoever loves me will be loved by my Father and I will love him and reveal myself to him. When we give to the poor, God indeed pours his love, peace and joy into our hearts, into our lives and through us into the hearts of those who are poor.

Prayer Line - If you are in need of prayers, call the healing and restoration prayer line at 617-442-3938 (located at Mission Church, 1545 Tremont Street, Boston). Healing service is the last Sunday of the month at 2:00 PM.

“Quiet Room” and Restroom in the lower Church: Saint Agnes Parish has engaged Munroe Construction Company to build a quiet room with a restroom in the rear of the lower Church. We hope to begin construction the day after Memorial Day. During construction (estimated 4-6 weeks), Saturday evening and Sunday Masses will be celebrated in the upper Church. Daily Mass will be celebrated in the lower Church, as will Confessions.

Arlington Catholic/Saint Agnes Collaboration

May 12, 2017

Dear Friend of Saint Agnes School and Arlington Catholic High School,

Thank you to over 130 members of our school communities who joined us on Thursday, May 11,

2017, to discuss the collaboration of Saint Agnes School, Fidelity House, and Arlington Catholic High

School. We are grateful for your time and insights. Our conversation was deep and rich and you can

see the focus group comments in their entirely, opening the hyperlink by right-clicking here.

Five key areas were explored under the leadership of our faculties:

Catholic Identity: Elizabeth Heston (ACHS) and Jennifer Lepore (SAS)

Academics: Laura Gennerelli (SAS) and Rob Sarmiento (ACHS)

Student Life: Will Cobb (ACHS) and Phyllis Frazier (SAS)

Technology Integration: Mary Cusick (SAS), Paul Perrone (SAS) and Kelly Seibel (ACHS)

Finance/Advancement/Facilities: Tricia Crane (SAS), Lee-Ann Pepicelli-Murray (ACHS) and Matt Schweitzer (Parish)

In order to have the fullest data possible, all parents, teachers, and students are being asked to take a confidential general survey which will be processed thorough the Catholic School Office. A Steering Committee will evaluate the ideas from the brainstorming sessions and surveys. Toward the end of June these ideas will be shared with the school communities. We expect that there will be items that can be implemented to benefit students immediately, but other items will take longer-range planning and additional consideration. Our primary focus will remain acting for the benefit of our students at every level providing academic excellence in a community of lively faith. Sincerely yours in Christ, Rev. Brian M. Flatley, Pastor Ms. Linda M. Butt, School Team Leader
