  • for the elderly and our industry got great exposure during this event. IHHCsupported the event and we had our logo displayed on the screens as well as thebanner on the stage and we received acknowledgement for our participation. Sixchefs, all from member’s facilities, completed on stage and presented theirvariations of a chicken dish to showcase their passion and professional skills.

Simon Bryant (celebrity chef from the cook and the chef ABC TV series)commented “that it was a tougher job tocook in aged care facilities then the restaurant kitchens taking into consideration the various challenges faced byaged care chefs on a daily basis with legislation, likes and dislikes, special diets, modified food etc.”

“Much loved Adelaide cook Maggie Beer launched a foundation to improve food in aged care homes, promisingto fight for “a generation who never complained”. The Maggie Beer Foundation (A Good Food Life For All) willwork to “give beautiful food to people without the ability to cook for themselves, to sustain them not onlynutritionally but emotionally as well”. The Breakfast Seminar on the Aged Care Accreditation was held immediately after the April Board Meeting.Thirty attendees was a good number as we were in uncharted waters on this. The format was well received witha buffet breakfast part of the agenda. We commenced at 8.15am and concluded by 10.15am.

We had two speakers: Kathy Prain from the Accreditation Agency and our own Ian Byron presenting on thesame topic but from 2 different angles - the assessors view and the facilities view - very interesting.

The time is always ripe right now for some new blood to join us. Please empower yourselves and the committeeby enquiring about coming on board. I genuinely look forward to hearing from you.
