Norton’s Star Atlas and Telescopic HandbookBSDCOMPLETE MAPS OF THE CELESTIAL SPHERE

This Atlas, by Arthur P. Norton, A. B., is most excellent for collegework in Astronomy, as well as for the use of all who study that subject.

An Encyclopaedic Summary of important subjects related to astron-omical study fills the first thirty odd pages of the book. For quick, readyreference this part of the book will be found invaluable, as the materialtreated is very clearly and concisely stated, and easily found.

The Maps are based on Webb^s "Celestial Objects for Common Tele-scopes" and Smythe^s "Cycle of Celestial Objects," as well as on Hou-zeau^s "Uranometric Generale," and the catalogs of the Greenwich andCape Town Observatories. The Revised Harvard Photometry has alsobeen consulted.

Upwards of 6,500 Stars and 600 Nebulae are shown on the severalmaps, located correctly for the Epoch of 1920.

The Circumpolar Maps extend from 40° North and South respective-ly to the Poles, and the Equatorial Maps extend from 60° North to60° South, thus giving an Overlap of 20°, while the Equatorial Mapsthemselves, comprising six (6) double page maps, overlap 30 minutes ofR. A. on the right and left sides respectively.

The Important Telescopic Objects on each map are summarized onthe page preceding that map. They are classified under the headings:Double Stars, Variable Stars, Nebulae and Star Clusters. Not only isthe object, the constellation it is in, and the position given, but a briefsentence covers its salient characteristics.
