Shotover House, Arthurs Point, Queenstown.

Perched on the edge of the Shotover Valley, this house takes traditional architectural lines and materials and explores them with contemporary purpose and detailing. The house nestles quietly into the surrounding landscape, without compromising connection to spectacular views and sun.

Scarborough House, Scarborough, Christchurch This house is currently under construction. Two long forms slide past one another in plan, allowing views from almost all rooms. Outdoor areas connect seamlessly to the house: these public areas are designed for gatherings and parties, with casual, comfortable flow between outside and inside, and shelter for different winds and weather. Natural materials and colours complement surrounding flora, while roofs pitched long allow large north facing roof areas to capture solar energy. Thermal mass, passive ventilation and high insulation values promote efficient energy use.

Tata House, Tata Beach, Golden Bay.

This house looks west to Golden Bay in the south island, nestled into its bush-surrounded site with views towards the water. The buildings are designed for easy beach holidays and minimal upkeep for remote owners. Four self-contained bedrooms are arranged around a courtyard and a long deck that stretches towards the sea. Carefully planned outdoor areas ensure year-round sun and shelter.

This house, currently under construction, is located at the base of the Whangaparoa Peninsula near Orewa, Auckland. The site looks north and east to the sea and distant islands. Roof, wall and floor elements curve into and over each other, to produce a house whose functions fit into the resultant spaces from this highly dynamic architecture. The curved shapes are being clad in fibreglass on the exterior, using boat building techniques, with large expanses of glazing to capture the spectacular views.
