We had a very successful To Teach Who Christ Is campaign here at St. Barbara raising more than $332,995 in pledges. A pledge is made in good faith to God to support His Church. This campaign is very important for our parish as it will help us to improve accessibility to our church and parish center.

We will create a more accessible, safe and professional Environment in our parish office. We will also grow our building fund “First Fruits” for needed improvements in the future. To make it easier for families to keep up with their pledge payments, we will designate the 1st Sunday of each month as PLEDGE PAYMENT SUNDAY for the To Teach Who Christ Is campaign. Please bring your payment envelope to Mass, put your name on it, and place it in the 2nd collection. Of course, if you prefer to mail-in your payment you may continue to do so. Additional envelopes will be available in the church pews for your convenience. Thank you!

Dress a Girl Update

Last weekend was an incredible time to experience the spirit and enthusiasm of the people of St. Barbara and our community as we came together to participate in Dress a Girl Around the World. Together we made 26 dresses that will be sent to girls who may be receiving their first and only new dress. The Missionary Spirit Team wants to extend a big thank you to everyone who helped. It was inspiring to see young children, teenagers and adults lovingly creating dresses with the shared idea that every young girl deserves the dignity of having a beautiful dress of their own.

PG 5 ǀ St. Barbara Catholic Church

The season of Advent is around the corner and, before you know it, Christmas will be here. I know… that gut feeling, right?

In today’s Epistle, St. Paul warns us that the Lord is coming! And, that gut feeling should be there not just because all the preparations we have to complete before for the celebrations ahead but also because we are reminded that the Lord can come again at any time! So, we shouldn’t be looking so much at the season; what truly matters, according to St. Paul, is what the Lord finds us doing with the new life, the graces that He has given to us. Again… that gut-feeling!

This is at the heart of Jesus’ parable in today’s Gospel. By our baptism, Jesus has entrusted to each of us a portion of His “possessions,” a share in His divine life. He has given us much and we are to be like the worthy wife in today’s First Reading, and the faithful man in today’s Psalm. Like them, we should walk in the “fear of the Lord”.

This is not the “fear” of the useless servant in today’s parable. He is so afraid of what His master is going to do to him if he does not measure up, that He becomes paralyzed and does nothing. Are our expectations of what the Lord will demand from us doing the same to us? That is not the fear our Master, Jesus Christ, should inspire in us. Wisdom tells us that what he is asking us is not something huge. He said, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” Matthew 11:29-30.

Jesus wants us to be humble enough to recognize that He is the answer. He expects us to follow Him on the way—to follow His directions. And, those directions can be summarized in two commands: Love God above everything else, and love your neighbor as yourself. That is His expectation of each of us: to love!

Be fruitful in Christ’s love and, when the Lord comes back He will say to you, “Come, share your master's joy.”

From the Desk of Fr.

Bethlehem Arts A representative of the Catholic Christian Community for Jerusalem and Bethlehem in the Holy Land will be with us next weekend, Nov. 25 & 26 to display their olive wood hand crafted religious figurines and articles. The Catholic Christian Community in the Holy Land depends mainly on olive wood carving and tourism due to the political conflict and the lack of tourism there many Christians were forced to leave the Holy Land. By displaying and selling these religious articles, Christian communities of the Holy Land are kept financially alive. Please plan on stopping by and looking at these beautiful hand carved and crafted religious goods which will be displayed at the back of church after each mass.

A pilgrimage to Marian Shrines in Fatima and Lourdes

will be hosted by the Office of the Diaconate in conjunction

with Ami Travel.

The trip will be held April 15-25, 2018 and will be

All deacons, wives, parishioners, family and friends are invited to join as we deepen our faith, travel with others, attend daily Mass and learn about some of the Catholic Church’s greatest saints. The cost is $3,495 per person and includes roundtrip airfare, 4-star hotel accommodations, buffet breakfasts and eight dinners.
