A Limited History of TV Aerials

TV aerials are designed with the sole aim of providing you with a better signal sothat you can watch your television. Back in the day it was common for “rabbit ear”aerials to come attached to TVs, or for loop aerials to be bent into weird andwonderful shapes by frustrated would-be viewers.

These days things have drastically changed and the advent and introduction ofdigital TV aerials has significantly changed how signals and receptions work.

Location of aerials

Really TV aerials fall into two different categories depending on the location theyare put in. As mentioned above, there used to be “rabbit ear” aerials which wereindoor aerials, located directly on top of the TV set itself.

However, you can also get to other aerials which are mounted in loft spacesinternally to help assist with the signal strength.

Of course, the more effective aerials are mounted up high so as to avoid any of thepotential interference from other sources, such as buildings and trees. This then

are outdoor aerials that are invariably located on rooftops or, if this is not possible, the sides of buildings.

Installation of aerials

The installation of aerials is a very straight forward process and does not alwaysrequire the assistance of a professional, especially if the aerial is an indoor one. Allyou need to do is ensure that you have the best path available to the television set,and this is likely to give you the best outcome.

However, it is often advisable to arrange for a professional installer to fit yourexternal aerials, especially if these are to be mounted on your rooftop. Climbingaround on the roof is not exactly everyone’s cup of tea, and with little to noexperience there is a huge risk of injury. Professional installers will be able toascertain the risks involved, and will have the right equipment to be able to combatthese and hopefully mitigate the risk of injury. For example, the right ladders to geton to the roof in the first place, as well as the right footwear to prevent the risk ofslipping. Hard hats and harnesses also go a long way to reduce accidents.

While this often makes sense from the installers point of view, it can also do a lot tooffer protection to your property. Slips and trips can dislodge tiles, which in turncan prove very costly – with many roofers charging up to £50 just to have a look at

the problem. With a professional you know that you are going to get the very bestservice, without having to leave the safety of your home.
