Hello, my name is Don Allen and I am your District Governor for the year 2006 -2007. There were 15 other fine Lions and guests from District 4-A1 at the Inter- national Convention in Boston. Our new International President, Jimmy Ross, and all the District Governors were inducted on the Fourth of July. Yes, we were able to see the fireworks display associated with the Boston Pops concert that took place on the Charles River. As IP Jimmy is from Quitaque, Texas (pronounced “kit away”), they imported a color guard on horse- back, the Texas Cowboy Band, who was decked out in spurs and chaps, and many Texas Lions marching with big Texas state flags. As your, and heavy on the “YOUR”, governor, I am here to help make all of our Lions Clubs have a great year and be successful. If I can help you solve a prob- lem or answer a question, please contact me. I may not know the answer, but I will tell you that and will find either the an- swer or someone who can find the an- swer. Another way that I want to help is by introducing you to some new ideas (or maybe re-exposing you to an old idea). I asked our newsletter editor, Sue Carner, to include a letter to all members from our IP Jimmy Ross. In this letter, he challenges us to evaluate what we do as clubs and revital- ize our activities. The result of this process should be more Lions do- ing projects that they are enthusiastic about. Perhaps the result of this evaluation leads to a new hands-on service project that everyone is excited about but just a little too big for your club to handle alone. My theme for the year is “Together We Serve”. Together can be members of the club, or perhaps non-lion friends joining the merriment or, perhaps members of another Lions club (or a zone). The result will be more service being accomplished in the district and that is what we are all about. WE SERVE! Further, how does that make us all feel? After all We Serve is all about giving, and giving makes us all feel GREAT! I would like to invite you to view the new on-line quarterly magazine, Lions Quarterly or LQ. Go to the Lions Clubs International web site www.lionsclubs.org, select English language, then select News & Events, then PR Tools, the LQ - Lions Quarterly. Then select your connection speed and view the program. While you are there, browse through the other items available like Public Service Announce- ments and videos that are available. Maybe there is something to spark a new idea for your club. I saw many things I did not know were available. A priority for the year is Campaign SightFirst II. I know you will hear much more about this project from our District Coordinator, PDG Don Lustenberger and your Area Coordinators. Just remember we are not telling you that you must par- ticipate, but we would encourage you to think of the millions of people who ben- efited from SightFirst I. The secret word is Quitaque. Lions have donated/pledged over forty five million dollars for Campaign SightFirst II as of July 4th, 2006. I want to thank PDG Ken Eaton, Ann Eaton, and Tim Ribal who are working on starting a Branch Club of the Linden Lions club in Valley Springs. They have had sev- eral meetings and are evaluating several hands-on service projects that they can tackle. I wish them luck and look forward to their charter night. I would like to congratulate all those who helped with the All Star Football pro- gram this year. I was fortunate enough to be on the field and shook hands with the team captains. Each and every one looked me straight in the eye, gave me a hearty handshake, and said thank you sir as I wished them good luck. After the game, the players could have formed two “groups” but they did not, they gathered together North sitting beside South to take part in the awards ceremony. Forty five minutes after the game and the awards ceremony, there were still over one hun- dred players, parents, and coaches from both teams celebrating. I was really im- pressed with the players and there is no doubt in my mind that this is a program worth supporting. I would encourage ev- eryone to get involved with the program. Call Elizabeth Gibbs-Olson and give her the name of a contact within your club. I look forward to visiting all the clubs this year. I want to hear about your successes and your aspirations. Page Two Together We Serve AUGUST 2006

Hi. I am looking forward to this year working with District Governor Don Allen and his cabinet members. I have always enjoyed visiting the clubs of the district and look forward to seeing as many clubs as I can this year.

As the chairperson of the MERLO team, I am going to rotate our meeting places between Merced and Modesto. If anyone knows of a place to meet, let me know. I think we have a great group of Lions on the MERLO team this year, and we are anxious to help any club. If there are any clubs with challenges, please call me and we will try to help you solve them.

I enjoy going up to Camp Pacifica when the campers are there. This year we will have about 110 campers. There is a lot of work to be done to receive the campers. We need more Lions to come up to camp before it starts and while the campers are there.

I love football. The All Star game at UOP this year was a well played game. The south team lost but there is always next year. The food was great in the Stadium Club.

DISTRICT DIRECTORY CHANGES (already!)

Governor Don's comments on the above letter...Access to the means to report your Club Renewal Initiatives is on the left side of the

main page, labeled “Club Renewal Initiative”. If you have any trouble finding the loca-tion of the web site, call me (DG Don Allen) or our Cabinet Secretary, Diana Tanner.

I hope you will all consider doing this evaluation of your club activities; just think of the excitement of finding a new service activity or fundraiser. Do you remember your first Lions club activity and how eager you were to participate? By finding a new activity, your whole club could be just like a club of brand spanking new, wet behind the ears members! If any club would like a facilitator for your club review, I will try to assist you or find an impartial person to assist, just contact me.

Letter From International President Jimmy Ross:Dear District Governor:

In our Boston sessions, I spoke about the 2006-07 Lions Club Renewal Initiative to strengthen Lions clubs.

To communicate to Lions clubs the importance of this initiative, I am asking you to print the following announcement in your next district bulletin:

Dear Lions:During the next 12 months, you will encounter many opportunities to contribute to

the success of your club. One such opportunity is the Lions Club Renewal Initiative. At a full meeting ear-

ly this year, please consider conducting a review of club practices. This can include the success of your club meetings, member recruitment, member relations, service projects, and fundraisers.

A Club Renewal Initiative form may be accessed and submitted online through the Lions Web site: www.lionsclubs.org. The form is also available in a paper format from [email protected] or 630-571-5466 ext. 287. It will help guide you and your club through the renewal process by identifying:

• Highly successful club activities/practices that should be continued and expanded.

• Less successful club activities/practices that should be changed and improved.

• Unsuccessful club activities/practices that should be replaced by something brand new.

This discussion will help strengthen your club. Your fellow members may decide to eliminate an unprofitable fundraiser, or perhaps introduce a new service project.

For your club’s participation in the renewal process, the club will receive from Lions Clubs International a Club Renewal Banner Patch. Through your participation, your fellow Lions will benefit as members of a renewed, invigorated club.

Thank you for participating in the Lions Club Renewal Initiative.

Sincerely,Jimmy M. Ross, 2006-07 Lions International President.

Dear Lions of District 4-A1:Such challenges I have had getting this newsletter

written! My computer crashed, so it has taken me 5 different computers to get it finished. Otherwise this would have been done a week ago! Hopefully when

I am ready for the next edition I will either have the computer fixed or a new one! I am now writing this last part on a friendís computer in San Diego after I watched her being installed as DG for District 4-L6.

Camp Pacifica is busily in session - hope to see some of you there on Lions Day and also Lions Day at the Modesto Nuts! Both of them are great fun. For those of you who have never seen the camp, you can tour the camp and see where your money is going. It will be neat to finally have a new medical building - it was sorely needed! There will be a BBQ at the ball field prior to the Modesto Nuts game and then there will be fireworks after. Both of these events are family oriented, so bring your spouses, significant others and children.

The next cabinet meeting will be in Chowchilla and will be the installation of DG Don's Cabinet. Come out and support him, as well as renew old friendships or make some new ones. Try to get some of your members, who have never been to a cabinet meeting, especially your new members.

I was glad to see that DG Don is going to continue the Diamond awards. I think that is a very worthwhile program. What a neat way to recognize the good that our local Lions do for their clubs, communities, or beyond!

If any of you have any suggestions on subjects for the district newsletter, please let me know. For those who purchased an ad in the district roster, you will get one published in the newsletter for 1 quarter some time during the year for the same price. Hopefully the district Lions will support the advertisers.

"What are you doing to me, DG Pat?" The unvailing of our new District Governor, Don Allen at International Convention, Boston, July 2006.

ATTENTION…ATTENTION…ATTENTION…ATTENTION…Change is good – remember that!! Plan ahead!!

The second and third cabinet meetings will have a region rever-sal (Please disregard the DG’s fancy calendar)!

2nd cabinet meeting, October 27-28, 2006 San Joaquin Region at Linden Clubhouse

3rd cabinet meeting, February 16-17, 2007 Mountain Region at where ???

▲ DELHI-BALLICO LIONS had their annual Pig in the Park with about 110 folks braving the heat. They also have 3 new members – congratulations!

▲ DELTA LIONS had their installation and President Norma presented 4 Lion of the Year awards to Joanne Dexter, Ann Corvey, Elisa Barosso, and Elizabeth Gibbs-Olson. Activities include working on the Relay for Life and attendance at the LCI Convention in Boston.

▲ HILMAR-IRWIN-STEIVINSON LIONS had BBQ elk in May and they did not invite us! Yummmmmm! They also cheered their district bowling team results but were lamenting that there was no prize for winning the Corona Consumption Contest! In May they also brought in 3 new mem-bers. Fundraiser include a BBQ for the Hilmar Swim Team, Car Night in July and a chicken BBQ in September.

▲ LE GRAND LIONS are in the process of purchasing a building site for their clubhouse. They also had a pancake breakfast in the park as a fundraiser for the cancer society. Future plans include White Cane Days in October and an auction in November.

▲ LINDEN LIONS presented Gerald Steele a Melvin Jones award in March. Work projects included Asparagus Festival, Lobster feed, Charity Raffle, Linden Cherry Festival and San Joaquin County Fair. Also they have had a PDG night and a PP (get your mind out of the gutter – Ed) night.

▲ LODI LIONS worked at the Lodi Grape Festival at a wine booth and a Pitch-to-Win booth. Donations were made to PALS ($10,000 community project donation) and 4 student scholarships.

▲ MADERA BREAKFAST LIONS participated in the Relay for Life, are busy working on the cabin and the Nurses’ Station/Medical Building at Camp Pacifica, and have a booth at the ball field. They are also busy bringing in new members – Busy Club Brings In Members!! And of course Moonlight Madness is coming up – one of these days we will have to check that out!! They also gave some scholarships and cooked meals at Camp paci-fica on July 27 (somebody’s birthday!). Congratulations to Lion Jim Beasley on his Melvin Jones Award.

▲ MARIPOSA LIONS had their installation with salmon and tri-tip – yummy! They also worked on the Mariposa Lion’s and Sierra Classic Car Show at the end of June.

▲ MARIPOSA GOLD OAK LIONS had a taco salad fundraiser and donated to bus elementary school kids to the Mining & Mineral Museum in Mariposa, sober grad night and Junior Diabetes Walk.

▲ MERCED BREAKFAST LIONS continue to do highway cleanup and club visitations. Due to an oversight by the local college, they will not be giving out their three college scholarships this year but will do six next year. However, they did give out six high school scholarships to Leo club members. Fund raisers include a Margarita Booth at the Spring Car Reunion and a fireworks booth. Congratulations to Lion of the Year, Allen Sietsema.

▲ MODESTO LIONS report the PDG Sax had to have some heart tests in July. He feels he is doing OK but very tired. Is getting back to meetings and has a gin rummy game planned for tonight. The club has a Lake Tahoe trip planned for October 7-8 at the Horizon. Their Chicken BBQ is set for

September 16 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. (drive thru) at Seasons on McHenry. Price is $10.00

▲ MODESTO BREAKFAST LIONS have been busy with putting out flags for the various patriotic holidays. Fund raisers include a champagne brunch (yummmmy!), a garage sale, and a food booth at Graceda Park on July 4th.

▲ MODESTO 500 LIONS had their annual work weekend at Camp Jack Hazard (Y Camp) in June. (Sure miss those temperatures right now. Ed.) Congratulations to Lion of the Year, Paul Forakis and Melvin Jones Fel-low Wayne Hill. There were also three music related scholarships given as well as the John Grisez scholarship. Having won the district scrap-book award, they are busy getting the book ready for the council of governors meeting in August. They also attended the LEF annual meeting in SF and the All Star Football game the same day. They are now gear-ing up to work on the Stanislaus County Fair - their major fund raiser.

▲ OAKDALE LIONS cooked breakfast for the Relay for Life and had a food booth at the Chocolate Festival. They also have been busy putting out flags. (I liked the entry about because of the shooting there will be no speaker for the last July meeting - is not that against the law?? Ed.) They are also doing a community calendar and preparing for the fall fund-raiser.

▲ SAN ANDREAS 49ER BREAKFAST LIONS won the top club award for small clubs for the 5th year in a row. Congratulations! It's obvious that a lot of time and effort was put into earning this award - how many district events do you go to and not see someone from their club? They have also been busy working on their cabin at Camp Pacifica. They also gave a scholarship and two camperships to Camp Pacifica.

▲ STOCKTON HOST LIONS taught us what duck farts are at the conven-tion: 1/3 Kahlua, 1/3 Bailey's Irish Cream, and 1/3 Crown Royale! This is a one shot drink and is supposed to clear your sinuses. (I would think it would clear a few other things, like your brain! Ed.) They also acknowl-edged the passing of PDG Vince Busam who had been well enough in November to attend the club's 85th anniversary.

▲ STOCKTON SAN JOAQUIN LIONS gave donations to City of Hope, American Heart Association, Stockton Blind Center, Relay for Life, and Latino Youth Leadership Conference. They also won the best bulletin award for the small club category at the convention. They were also able to get an ambulance donated by AMR.

▲ SOUTH STOCKTON LIONS will be giving a Culinary Arts scholarship annually in Duane Clair's name. They also worked on the Asparagus Festival, the Relay for Life, and held a golf tournament. Congratulations to Melvin Jones Fellows Dave Guardino, Dick Bokides, and Larry Mills.

▲ TRACY BREAKFAST LIONS won the top club award for large clubs for the 4th year in a row. They held a Youth Exchange Ball Draw, put on a Girls Softball Pancake Breakfast, and served breakfast and lunch at the Tritons Swim Meet. They donated $600 in camperships to Camp Paci-fica, and a very generous $17,000 to Tracy Interfaith Ministries. They are also busy refurbishing a used van to be able to put on their pancake breakfasts.

We would love to hear from all clubs whether you have a bulletin or not: Lion Sue Carner, 1136 Cecil way, Modesto, CA 95350; email: [email protected] (Please put subject as newsletter, as I don’t always recognize names – especially first names only – and don’t want to “spam”

you!) I also advertise club events meant for the district, so that also can be printed. If you want to advertise an event, you need to plan ahead so that it is to the newsletter at least 1 month before the next cabinet meeting.

New Contests and Awards

ALL STAR FOOTBALL GAME"Lewis' pick seals Lions victoryby Bill Poindexter, Bee Sports Editor

STOCKTON - Justin Chandley's name wasn't called when the outstanding de-fensive player of the 33rd annual Lions All-Star Football Game was announced Saturday night.

Chandley, a 6-foot, 215 pound de-fensive demon from Escalon High, didn't have an 85-yard interception return for a touchdown in the final minute to clinch the North's 23-14 victory over the South, as Armahd Lewis of Edison in Stockton did. Lewis collected the award, but it was Chandley whose name was called several times over the public-address system to a Stagg Memorial Stadium crowd estimated at 3,500.

...It was a play by Chandley that forced the South into comeback mode.

Trailing 14-7 with a few seconds remaining in the third quarter, the South faced third and 11 from its 4-yard line. Quarterback Nick Bates of Madera faded back into his end zone to pass, then retreated left and threw away the ball when Chandley came roaring in.

The ball went out of the end zone for a safety and a 16-7 North lead.

Bates went on to earn the outstand-ing offensive player award after com-pleting four passes for 90 yards in the final minutes of the game, including a 35-yard touchdown strike to Bubba Marroquin of Patterson.

...The South forced a punt, and a 22-yard completion from Bates to Oak-dale's Nick Reed put the ball on the South 49. Lewis intercepted Bates three plays later, avoided a minor traffic jam near midfield and streaked to the end zone for the clinching score with 33 sec-onds left.

Central Catholic running back Daniel Stall touched the ball several times in the first half, and his 1-yard touchdown run with 35 seconds left in the second quarter pulled the South into a 7-7 tie at halftime.

...Chandley and Escalon teammate Steve Gentry each will attend Delta

College in the fall. Gentry scored the North's first touchdown on a 19-yard catch from game MVP Sana Sausau and had an 11-yard reception on third and 5 during a 13-play, 80-yard scoring march to start the second half.

Scott Schettgen of Sonora kicked all three extra points for the North and should have had a touchdown pass. Schettgen took a pitch from quarterback Taylor Brietzman of Calaveras at the South 35, and threw to Ben Jamerigbe of St. Mary's at the goal line. Jemerigbe came out of the end zone toward the pass, but the ball went off his hands.

The South's defense was loaded with Stanislaus District players, and Johansen's Jeremy White, Hilmar's Wil-liam Paraz, Modesto's Mark Roberts, Golden Valley's Steven Bower and Davis' Anthony Miller all made multiple tackles."

Youth Exchange

By Ann Tognetti, PDG

District 4-A1 is an active participant in the MD-4 Lions Youth Exchange Program. Eighteen of our students participated in the program; nine went to Japan and nine went to Europe. Our district is also host-ing 10 students from Japan. Thank you to Tracy Breakfast, Linden, Clements-Lockford, Livingston, Escalon, Merced Breakfast, Sierra Oakhurst and Lodi Lions Clubs for supporting this activity.

MD-4 sent 32 students to Japan, 22 to Europe and 6 to Australia. This program is a wonderful opportunity for our young people to share their culture and learn about other countries.

news fromCalifornia Lions Camp (Camp Pacifica)

By PDG Ann TognettiJuly is here and it’s time for camp! Camp

Pacifica will offer two weeks of camp for the deaf and hard of hearing children. The first week is July 23rd through July 29th and the second week is July 30th through Au-gust 6th. We are expecting around 165 campers, counselors, staff and volunteers. Brooke Meyer is our camp director and she has a great staff to assist her. Our cook is returning from last year and she is willing to do additional jobs around the camp.

Our campers will be fed by the great-est cooks - thank you to the Mariposa Golden Oak Lions, Mariposa Lions, Bass Lake Lions, Sierra Oakhurst Lions, Turlock

Lions, Delhi Ballico Lions, Livingston Lions, Le Grand Lions, Merced Host Lions, Madera Breakfast Lions, Madera Evening Lions, At-water Winton Lions, Chowchilla Lions and Lioness, Merced Breakfast Lions, Dos Palos Lions, San Andreas Lions, San Andreas 49er Breakfast Lions, Linden Lions, Oak-dale Lions, and Stockton Host Lions. Thank you to Frank Lemos for helping to get fresh fruit and Darel Rethwisch for getting water-melons and Ray Nipper for getting eggs. A big thank you to Norman and Helen Clark for providing the horses for the campers (this is one of the most popular activities of the campers).

The Janet Laural Administration and

Medical Building will be dedicated at Lions Day on August 5th, please plan to attend. This building was funded through a $75,000 grant from Lions Clubs International with a matching gift from the late Lion Janet Laurel of Stockton.

Lions Steve Granlees, Norm Clark, Russ Custer, Fred Bunch, Jim Loving, the Tognetti’sk, and Red have been work-ing on completing the building. Lion Steve Granlees has been the driving force; he has spent a lot of time working on this proj-ect. (Editor’s Note: Camp caretaker Red has been hospitalized for a cardiac workup after suffering chest pains. We wish he and his family well.)

Thank you to all the clubs who have been working on their cabins and getting them ready for camp. The Bass Lake Lions, Sierra Oakhurst Lions and the North Fork Lions have done a great job on repairing the “Craft House”.

Hope you’ll be able to attend Lions Day at Camp on August 6th starting at 10:00 AM, join us for lunch, the dedication, the frog jumping contest and being with our campers.

Also look forward to seeing you at Li-ons Night with the Modesto Nuts on Sep-tember 2, 2006 at John Thurman Field in Modesto. Club presidents should be re-ceiving tickets in the mail.

The Diamond AwardBy DG Don Allen

According to Merriam Webster Dic-tionary, a diamond is described as a “na-tive crystalline carbon that is the hardest known mineral, that is usually nearly color-less, that when transparent and free from flaws is highly valued as a precious stone” and “something that resembles a diamond (as in brilliance, value, or fine quality)”. I liked our previous District Governor Pat Dimond’s idea so much that I want to con-tinue with this award. The works of our Li-ons and Clubs can be described using those same adjectives, so I want to acknowl-edge fine quality projects performed by our Lions and/or clubs. The program is the same, if you have a Lion who has worked hard to produce a fine quality project or had a brilliant idea, or produced a highly valued result, I want to know about it. I also want to know about a club who has worked through the revitalization process and made an improvement in your club.

Further, I want to recognize any new proj-ect that a club has implemented.

Really, the field is very open; if your club or someone in your club is a bright and shining star, I want to give them an award.

This year’s award has two diamonds, much smaller but twice as many, but the important thing is thanking the recipient for their achievement and allowing me to have that feeling of giving.

This process is the same as last year, write up a short description of who should receive the award and why and send it to your Zone Chair, Region Chair or me. Bring the person to a cabinet meeting to receive the award. Those receiving awards do not need to pay for registra-tion at the cabinet meeting, they need to pay for meals and/or room. I look forward to making lots of awards. Keep those awards requests coming.

Secret WordBy DG Don Allen

Somewhere within this newsletter is a secret word. The first person to call me with the secret word, will win a prize. Please only call my home number (209) 847-8825 and either tell Patty or me the secret word or leave a message on my home phone with your club, your name, and the secret word. The winner of the contest will be announced at the next cabinet meeting and in this fine newsletter.

RetentionOne of my goals for the year is to have positive NET growth for the district, and

I would be willing to shave both hairs from my head and my beard (Patty has never seen me without a beard) at the August cabinet meeting next year if we

have positive net growth in membership for the year 2006 - 2007. While reviewing some reports on the international web site, I noticed that District 4-A1 (as of this writing) gained 211 members, and that is just terrific, and dropped 248 members from 7/1/05 through 6/30/06. The district had 94 members pass away, move or transfer. The remainder (154) were dropped for various reasons like not attending meetings or not attending and not paying their dues. I looked at my own club and recognized the names and the associated reasons for dropping them, just as all of you do about your own club. Then I remembered visiting the San Andreas Lions Club for new officer installation and remembered installing the “Call Girl”, Lion Sue Garrett. Now Lion Sue’s job is to call the members and remind them of meetings and projects. Guess what? San Andreas Lions Club did NOT loose any members. We are very close to having positive net growth, the difference is only 38 members. Perhaps we can turn the net loss to a net gain if we talk to them when they miss a meeting and ask why or make a special effort to invite them to a service project so they too can enjoy the gift of giv-ing. Take care of the members we have, keep them busy and we will end up next June with more members than we started with this July.

AUGUST 2006 Together We Serve Page Seven

Campaign SightFirst II, Lions Clubs International’s worldwide effort to raise at least US$150 million for blindness prevention programs, has attracted the at-tention of heads of state and world leaders around the globe. The leaders are taking note of the campaign’s potential to affect the future of entire nations and regions by saving as many a37 million from preventable blindness.

Manmohan Singh, prime minister of India and political leader of the world’s largest democracy, wrote to Lions’ International President Dr. Ashok Mehta about the impact that Lions and the SightFirst program has already had in his nation.

I am glad to know that Lions clubs International is engaged in cam-paign SightFirst II to prevent and reduce blindness across the globe.

The dedicated efforts of Lions clubs International to control and elimi-nate blindness has extended much needed medical and other facilities to peoples across the national boundaries to get back their vision. Its activities in this direction are manifested by its landmark SightFirst Pro-gramme and have benefited millions of people to prevent blindness. The continuation of such activities in the form of Campaign SightFirst II has the challenging goal of fighting blindness and making it a thing of the past

I wish the Campaign all success.

John Howard, prime minister of Australia, recalled Lion’s long history of ser-vice to the blind and great success in preventing vision loss around the world.

I welcome the opportunity to endorse the efforts of Lions Clubs Inter-national and the millions of Lions members in reversing and preventing blindness through Campaign SightFirst II.

Lions Clubs have a long history of service to millions of vision-impaired people. The Sight First Programme has been extremely successful in re-storing sight, preventing vision loss and improving eye-care services and education. Campaign SightFirst II promises to continue this success. I am particularly pleased to see Australians involved in tackling such an important international problem.

Lions Clubs International and Lions members play an important role in the global community by encouraging good citizenship and fostering understanding. The philanthropic work of Lions members is most certainly an example of what I call the “social coalition” - the idea that everyone has a role to play in contributing to social well being.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all those associ-ated with the campaign and wish you all the best for your fund-raising efforts.

Other world leaders who have voiced their support for Campaign SightFirst II include Dr. Jan Peter Balkenende, prime minister of the Netherlands; Michael Jeffery, governor general of Australia and Donald Tsang, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.

The campaign has also received statements of support from media celebri-ties including Walter Cronkite, former television journalist, and Dr. Mehmet Oz, a noted heart surgeon and author of the best selling book, You: The Owner’s Manual.

Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with more than 1.3 millions members in nearly 46,000 clubs in 197 countries and geographic areas. In addition to its efforts toward conquering blindness, the organization has made a strong commitment to community service and helping youth throughout the world.
