WHY IS ART EDUCATION IMPORTANT?Art at The blue
• The Blue school has an established reputation as a leader in Art education in the South West!
• The Art department has an ‘Art school’ feel, where students of all ages can find a safe place to explore and express their ideas, experiences and individual outlook on the world… and importantly have these ideas validated.
• “The arts enhance the process of learning. The systems they nourish, which include our integrated sensory, attention-al, cognitive, emotional, and motor capacities, are, in fact, the driving forces behind all other learning” (Jensen, 2001)
• The perfect companion to any A level whether you intend to further your artist studies or not
• The creative journey has highs and lows, but both are important to help you become a rounded individual who has the confidence to express their true feelings and ideas.

What we will do
• We will provide you with a series of work shops.
• Each workshop will introduce you to new techniques and ways of working.
• You will also be introduced to relevant artists whose work relates to the workshop.
• We will encourage you to talk about your work in groups and one to one tutorials.
Development – working like a 6th former
The workshops at the start of the course allow each student to experience Art at a higher level and gain a first hand understanding about the level of experimentation and personal exploration needed at A level.
What is expected of you
• To get involved in each workshop.
• To experiment with new practices and ways of working.
• To take risks and work outside of your comfort zone.
• To complete work set in a workshop – it all counts towards your coursework grade.
• To complete 5 hours of personal study a week, outside of your 4 lessons in the study room and after school.
• To contribute to the course by suggesting artists and techniques you would like to try.

ESSENTIAL FOR AN ART & DESIGN CAREER
• If you are already aiming to apply to Art school or work as an artist/designer, you are likely already to be interested in – and suited to – Art A level.
• You will find that the course offers plenty of opportunity to hone your skills and develop as an artist.
BENEFICIAL TO OTHER CAREERS
• The course is not, however, solely suitable for aspiring career artists; it could make an excellent addition to your A level programme, whatever your ambitions may be.
• Art may broaden the scope of an otherwise primarily essay-based or scientific selection of subjects. Independent thinking and the ability to manage projects.
NEED ART GCSE?
• Your Art GCSE grade is probably the best indication of your ability to pursue the A level – but we may also take students into the AS course on the strength of their ability to demonstrate interest in art & design and motivation to develop their skills
