As scholarship providers, our goal isn’t simply to awardscholarships. We want to ensure that all students – especially thosewhose families may not be familiar with the college and scholarshipapplication process – have the knowledge and resources they need tosuccessfully compete for admission and funding.

We know that you, our colleagues in this field, share our desire toequip students for success during this stressful and high-stakes periodin their young lives.

We’re excited to share with you some recent efforts andsuccesses we have had, and we believe the resources we are sharingcan help you toward this goal as well.

Our first effort, and one that we believe our colleagues canimplement with a modest investment is our Alumni Ambassadorprogram. Now in its third year, this effort relies on alumni of ourscholarship program to raise awareness of the Boettcher FoundationScholarship and instruct students on how they can increase theircompetitiveness for college admission and for all scholarships.

Katy Craig

We have recruited volunteers from our alumni community, and, on average 50 of them are

volunteering their time annually. They are trained – either in person or via webinar – to present the

details of the Boettcher Scholarship program and to deliver our standard presentation that covers

college funding, how students can stand out in their applications and how they can plan their high

school careers to increase their competitiveness.

This enthusiastic and dedicated corps of volunteers has significantly expanded the number of

schools and college fairs the foundation is able to attend. Last year, they reached more than 8,000

students with presentations and recruitment events. In addition to high schools and college fairs, our

ambassadors are also visiting middle schools, scout troops and other community youth groups.

With a modest investment of both time and funding, we have drastically increased the number of

Colorado students who are getting the resources and information they need to be competitive for

college admission and scholarships.

Our newest and biggest effort toward equipping students with the resources they need occurred

this fall with the launch of our first book, a guide to help students produce competitive and compelling

college and scholarship applications. Read the rest of the article here.
