His Education

When Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ was two and a half years old, his beloved

father passed away. It is for this reason, that he acquired all his education

under the care of the great Imam of his era, Hazrat Sayyid Shah Aale

Rasool Marahrawi ◌.

After teaching him his first Deeni lesson, Hazrat Sayyid Shah Aale Rasool

◌ embraced him, blessed him with his Duas and then enrolled him into

the Farsi (Persian) class.

Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ studied Persian, Arabic, Fiqh, Tafseer, Hadith,

Logistics and numerous other subjects under the watchful eye of Sayyidi

Aale Rasool ◌ and other great personalities at the blessed Khanqah e

Barakatiyah.

He excelled and attained expertise in every one of these sciences. He

showed immense love and respect towards his Deeni Teachers. If

someone even taught him as single lesson, he would respect that person

as his teacher.

This, should serve as a lesson to students of sacred knowledge, many of

whom in this day and age have acquired knowledge but have forgotten

the ethics of learning and the ethics of respecting their Deeni Teachers.

His Shaykh-e-Tariqat

Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ was blessed with the esteem honour of being the

mureed and the Khalifa of his spiritual mentor, Hazrat Sayyid Shah Aale

Rasool Marahrawi ◌.

A Brief Introduction to His Shaykh e Tariqat

Hazrat Sayyid Shah Aale Rasool Marahrawi ◌ is one of the foremost

grandmasters of the Barakaati Silsilah and one of the greatest Sufis of his

era. He was the son of Hazrat Sayyid Shah Aale Barakaat Sutre Mia ◌.

Masha’ikh of the 13th Century. He served the Ahle Sunnat Wa Jama’at with

complete sincerity and devotion. His was a generous and loving

Page 12: A Lamp of Haafiz Abdul Kareem Punjabi Hazrat Haafiz Qaari Muhammad Fayaz Rampuri Hazrat Molvi Fazlullah Hazrat Maulana Noor Ahmed Uthmani Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Hasan Khan Uthmani Bareilvi

11

personality. He showed immense love towards the needy and the

orphans. His character and morals were a beautiful example of the

Sunnat of the Beloved Rasool . He always performed his Namaaz in

congregation at the Masjid, and he never missed a single Tahaj-jud Salaah

in his life. He always dressed in the garb of Ulama. He never compromised

the Shariah.

Now, can you imagine the condition of a sincere and devout personality

like Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ in the presence of Sarkaar Sayyid Aale Rasool

◌? Can you imagine what great blessings he attained from the Court of

this great Sufi of the time!

Sarkaar Noori Mia’s Excellence

Huzoor Sayyidi Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ was a very great Aalim and Faadil,

He was indeed a Sufi and a true Wali.

He was blessed with many mureeds (disciples) who loved and honoured

him. Before preparing a person spiritually, he first prepared him in Aqida.

He first made sure that the person who wished to be trained knew the

proper Aqida (belief/creed) of the Ahle Sunnat Wa Jama’at. He wrote

books against the bud-mazhabs (deviants) and openly refuted the shias

etc.

Commencement of Spiritual Training

Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ was only seven years old when Hazrat Sayyid Shah

Aale Rasool Marahrawi ◌ commenced his spiritual training. He kept fast

from the age of seven and for eighteen years, he remained in the Zikr of

Allah.

He strictly adhered to the Shariah, and this can be seen in his

distinguished writings. Like the rest of his family, he was also a great

Imam of Tasawwuf (Spiritualism). From childhood, Hazrat Sayyid Shah

Aale Rasool Marahrawi ◌ set him on the path of Tasawwuf. The blessed

wife of Sarkaar Sayyidi Aale Rasool ◌ would request Sayyidi Aale Rasool

◌ to be a bit lenient on the young Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌, but Huzoor

Sayyid Shah Aale Rasool ◌ could see the glow of Wilaayat on the

forehead of the young Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌, so he would respond by

saying,

‘Let him be. What need does he have for (worldly) comfort and

relaxation? He is something else, and he is to become something else. He

is one of the Qutbs from amongst the seven Qutbs, whom Hazrat Bu Ali

Shah Qalandar ◌ and Hazrat Shah Badiud-deen ◌ informed us about, and

he is the seal of this chain of Qutbs.’ [Tazkira e Noori]

Hazrat Noorul Aarifeen Sarkaar Abul Husain Ahmad e Noori ◌ also

attained spiritual blessings through the following Ambia e Kiraam

(Alaihimus Salaam)

He attained special Spiritual Blessings through the Beloved Rasool . He

embraced and shook the blessed hands of the Beloved Rasool .

He also attained spiritual blessings from Hazrat Moosa , Hazrat Esa

and Hazrat Sulaiman

He attained special spiritual blessings from the following Awliyah e

Kiraam;

o Huzoor Ghaus e Azam Shaykh Abdul Qaadir Jilani ◌

o Khwaja e Khwajegaan Hazrat Khwaja Mu’eenud-deen Chishti ◌

o Hazrat Sayyiduna Zunoon Misri ◌

o Hazrat Sayyiduna Khwaja Uthman Harwani ◌

o He was also blessed with the Ziyaarah of all the Awliyah Allah of

Marahrah Shareef

Page 15: A Lamp of Haafiz Abdul Kareem Punjabi Hazrat Haafiz Qaari Muhammad Fayaz Rampuri Hazrat Molvi Fazlullah Hazrat Maulana Noor Ahmed Uthmani Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Hasan Khan Uthmani Bareilvi

14

His Patience and Generosity

Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ was a very pious and patient personality. His son

Hazrat Sayyid Muhiyud’deen ◌ passed away as a child, but he remained

completely patient through this testing time. When he would become

very ill, he never complained. All that saddened him was that he was not

able to go to the Masjid during his illness.

Sayyidi Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ was also a very kind and generous

personality. He never turned away anyone who asked for assistance. He

always gave those in need more than they requested. He preferred old

things for himself, but gave the best of everything to those who served

him. He would give away his blankets, clothing and shawls etc to those in

need. When gifting someone something which belonged to him, he would

always say that he had already intended to give it away. He would do this

so that the person receiving it would not feel uncomfortable taking it. He

used to say, ‘Keep away from a miser. The best way to do this is to ask him

for some money. In this way, he will always avoid you.’

Once, a person presented Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ with a beautiful watch.

One of his family members favoured the watch and thought that he would

take it from Hazrat a little later. When he asked for the watch in the

afternoon, Hazrat said, ‘I already gave the watch away. Why did you not

take it when you saw that I had it with me?’ He never gathered any

valuables. He always gifted these to others.

Page 16: A Lamp of Haafiz Abdul Kareem Punjabi Hazrat Haafiz Qaari Muhammad Fayaz Rampuri Hazrat Molvi Fazlullah Hazrat Maulana Noor Ahmed Uthmani Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Hasan Khan Uthmani Bareilvi

15

Veil The Weaknesses of your Own

He always veiled the weaknesses of those around him. He never

embarrassed anyone or hurt his or her feelings. One of his Khadims was

seen taking some money from Hazrat’s pen-case. Those who saw him

informed Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ about this.

When Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ asked him about the money in the box, the

Khadim said that it was possible that the Mu’akils (Jins) who frequent

Hazrat’s place could have taken the money. Hazrat said, ‘I think you are

probably right. I will call all the Mu’akils together, find the thief and

punish him.’

The Khadim was very afraid when he heard this, so he discreetly returned

the seventy rupees which he had taken from the pen-case. He then went

to Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ and said that the money was in the pen-case.

Hazrat smiled at him and said, ‘Mia, it seems that the Mu’akil got scared.

It’s a good thing that he returned the money, if not tonight we would

have caught him and punished him.’ [Tazkira e Noori]

He always showed love to all those who were Sunni Sahih ul Aqida. If he

befriended any person, it was for the sake of Allah and His Rasool and

if he shunned anyone, it was for the sake of Allah and His Rasool .

Page 17: A Lamp of Haafiz Abdul Kareem Punjabi Hazrat Haafiz Qaari Muhammad Fayaz Rampuri Hazrat Molvi Fazlullah Hazrat Maulana Noor Ahmed Uthmani Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Hasan Khan Uthmani Bareilvi

16

His Love for Huzoor Ghaus e Azam ◌

Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ deeply and truly loved Huzoor Ghaus e Azam Jilani

◌. He would often be heard saying that, the Barakaati Household are

very close to Huzoor Ghaus e Azam ◌ and one who is connected to them

will never be troubled anywhere he went. He would always quote the

following words of Shaykh e Akbar Hazrat Shaykh Muhiyud’deen Ibn

Arabi ◌, ‘One woman cannot be the wife of two men and one seeker

cannot be the disciple of two persons.’

He would say, ‘The first and last stage in the path of Sulook (Path of

Spiritualism) is the Peer (Shaykh e Kaamil). Until this is not present, there

is nothing. One who is shunned from one door will find that his path is

closed (to all other doors of blessings). What shortage is there in our

house, that we may have a need to go elsewhere?’

He would say, ‘Some of our own have taken Ba’ait with others, and this

has caused them numerous hardships, and then they say that someone

has cursed them. Never! We do not even think of doing such things. What

can we do? Some of the Akaabireen of our Household are so close to

Huzoor Ghaus e Azam ◌ that they do not wish for any of those connected

to us to be embarrassed or insulted. Thus, whosoever insults this family,

he will be disgraced, since we are Qaadiri by nine generations and this

honours us.’

Page 18: A Lamp of Haafiz Abdul Kareem Punjabi Hazrat Haafiz Qaari Muhammad Fayaz Rampuri Hazrat Molvi Fazlullah Hazrat Maulana Noor Ahmed Uthmani Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Hasan Khan Uthmani Bareilvi

17

He would say,

‘We claim that those who are connected to us, least of all will never be

harmed through the hands of a Faqeer of another Khandan, and no

matter what the condition of his life may be, towards the end of his life,

he will be given the opportunity to repent, and his end will be good, for

this is a very great Court.’

His Daily Life

Sarkaar Noori Mia’s ◌ daily life and routine was an example of his pious

predecessors. He always performed his Namaaz in Jama’at at the Masjid

and would never make Imamat (i.e. lead the congregation). He always

appointed others as Imam (i.e. those who were worthy of Imamat). He

spent much time reading Waza’if (Litanies) and striving with sincerity in

the path of Allah (Mujaahida).

He always ate in Wudu, and all those present at the time would be

requested to join him during a meal. He also spent time reading and

studying books of the pious predecessors. He always recited Dalaa’il ul

Khayraat Shareef (The Bouquet of Duroods by Imam Jazuli ◌), and the

Hisn Hasin (Wazifa Kitaab). He ate very little food after Maghrib Salaah

and would then prepare for Esha Salaah. After Esha Salaah he would give

Nasiha (spiritual advice) to those present.

18

His Books & Treaties

Sarkaar Noori Mia was also an expert author. The list of books written by

Sarkaar Noori Mia is very lengthy. The names of a few books are being

quoted for the sake of Barkat:

Siraaj ul ‘Awaarif Fil Wasaaya wal Ma’aarif

 Ishtihaar-e-Noori

 Tahqeeqaatut Taraweeh

Daleel ul Yaqeen min Kalimaatil Aarifeen

 Aqeeda Ahle Sunnat

 Salaat ul Ghausiyah

 Salaat-e-Mu’eeniyah

 Salaat-e-Naqshbandiyah,

 Salaat-e-Saabiriyah

Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ was also a very accomplished poet and everything

that he wrote was in the deep love of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah .

Page 20: A Lamp of Haafiz Abdul Kareem Punjabi Hazrat Haafiz Qaari Muhammad Fayaz Rampuri Hazrat Molvi Fazlullah Hazrat Maulana Noor Ahmed Uthmani Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Hasan Khan Uthmani Bareilvi

19

His Karaamats

Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ was indeed a Saahib-e-Karaamat (miraculous

personality). His greatest Karaamat was without doubt, his steadfastness

on the Shariah. Hazrat Sayyid Husain Haydar and Hakeem Sayyid Aale

Husain heard the following narration from Doctor Muhammad Naasir

Khan Marahrawi;

Once, a man visited the doctor who practised in Eta and asked him to do a

house call as one of his relatives was very ill. He even paid the fee in

advance. The doctor accompanied him to visit the patient. After a while,

the man took Doctor Naasir towards a river that was in a very secluded

area. The man then gestured, and the Doctor found himself surrounded

by bandits. A group of bandits were aware that he had a large sum of

money with him, and thus tricked him. They took all his money and

belongings and then intended to kill him and throw him into the river.

The Doctor did not know what to do. All he could think of was Sarkaar

Noori Mia ◌. He said, ‘For Allah! Assist me and protect your disciple from

these bandits.’

After saying this, he turned away, and as he turned he saw Sarkaar Noori

Mia ◌ walking towards the bandits. He asked the doctor not to fear as he

was now there. When the bandits saw Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌, they fled into

the jungle. The Doctor says that Hazrat then asked him to follow him

home. They took just a few steps and the Doctor found that he was

already home. The next morning when he went to meet Hazrat, Sarkaar

Noori Mia ◌ said, ‘Alhamdu Lillah the end result was good. Do not be

Page 21: A Lamp of Haafiz Abdul Kareem Punjabi Hazrat Haafiz Qaari Muhammad Fayaz Rampuri Hazrat Molvi Fazlullah Hazrat Maulana Noor Ahmed Uthmani Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Hasan Khan Uthmani Bareilvi

20

uncomfortable, and that which you have witnessed, should not be

mentioned to anyone.’ (This was only mentioned after Hazrat’s wisaal)

The Blessings of Sultan ul Hind ◌

Maulana glulam Shabar Badayouni narrates the following incident in

Tazkira-e-Noori;

Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ took a group of his mureeds with him to Ajmer

Shareef for the Urs of Sultaan ul Hind Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaaz ◌.

On the fifth of Rajab, Hazrat said, ‘I have been authorized from Hazrat

Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaaz ◌ that all those of you who are with me may

present your special requests in writing to me, and I shall arrange for

your requests to be sent to Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaaz ◌ and you

will be given the appropriate command as per your request.’

One of the Khadims’ asked how the requests would reach Sultaan ul Hind

◌, and Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ informed him that there were Jins that were

appointed to do certain chores at the Darbaar. Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ then

gave all the written requests to Hafiz Nazrullah Saaheb Badayouni and

said, ‘Go to the south eastern corner of the Mazaar, where there is a well.

There, a person will ask for the letters. Present it to him and leave.’

The Khadim who had asked Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ about the letters was

curious and he felt that if he followed the Haafiz Saaheb, he would have

the opportunity to see one of the special Khadims of Hazrat Khwaja

Ghareeb Nawaaz ◌. He thus followed Haafiz Saaheb very closely, but

Page 22: A Lamp of Haafiz Abdul Kareem Punjabi Hazrat Haafiz Qaari Muhammad Fayaz Rampuri Hazrat Molvi Fazlullah Hazrat Maulana Noor Ahmed Uthmani Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Hasan Khan Uthmani Bareilvi

21

when he came close to the well, a huge crowd of people caused him to

lose sight of Haafiz Saaheb for a few moments. He then rushed forward

and saw Haafiz Saaheb returning without any letters in his hand. The

Khadim asked about the letters and Haafiz Saaheb said,

‘Do not joke with me. Just a little while ago you came to me and said that

Hazrat had asked for the letters, so I handed them over to you.’

When the Khadim heard this, he was astonished. They returned to

Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ and Haafiz Nazrullah explained what had happened

to him. Hazrat then asked the Khadim if he had gone along with Haafiz

Nazrullah, and he acknowledged that he had. Hazrat said, ‘Then whatever

happened was due to you. Tell me, what was your intention?’ The Khadim

explained his intention. Hazrat Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ then said, ‘It is the

great blessing of Sultaan ul Hind Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaaz ◌ upon this

Faqeer. There are many Faqeers like me who come here and take their

annual orders, but Alhamdu Lillah, a few of us are blessed with this

unique permission, that we present the requests of our disciples to

Hazrat.’ After three days, all those who wrote requests had them

returned, with their orders written on the requests.

His Marriage

Sarkaar Noori Mia ◌ married the daughter of his uncle Hazrat Chotu Mia

◌. After her demise, he married the daughter of Hazrat Sayyid

Muhammad Haydar. She was the granddaughter of Hazrat Sayyiduna Aale

Rasool ◌. Hazrat had no surviving children.
