The Academy as a constituent of the Indian Council of
Agricultural Research (ICAR), is serving the nation since over
38 years of standing in capacity building and research for enabling the National Agricultural ResearchSystem adapt to change. By bringing Post Graduate Education in Agriculture Management into its fold, the Academy has widened its efforts to emphasize on creating business-ready managers and change-agents, who can traverse many cross-functional boundaries in the field of agriculture.
The PGDM-A programme identifies potential managers and provides value addition in terms of functional expertise, entrepreneurial acumen, service orientation and general management perspective so that they are better equipped to take leadership roles and pilot the responsible transformation of agriculture in India.

As the balance of economic growth shifts from developed to emerging economies, the sector of agribusiness offers a new trajectory for bettering the economy. For a major emerging economy, like India, higher inclusive growth leads to more equitable opportunities and benefits all members of its society. As agriculture accounts for more than 50% shareof national employment, agribusiness sector becomes critical driver to achieve an enhanced inclusive growth. Concurrently, increasing population rate, global interdependencies, and diversity of markets; wider choices for consumer choices, new technologies and intellectual property regimes along with impacts of climate change and sustainability of resource base of agriculture are some of the challenges contributing to the complex nature of this sector. More often, these complexities bring uncertainties in this sector and enhance risks.
The two year PostGraduate Diploma in Agriculture (PGDMA)at this Academy is designed to contribute a new generation of young agri-business managers with a holistic perspective of agriculture and agribusiness, and with capacities to find tangible solutions to challenges faced by the stakeholders of this sector. The students are exposed to the nuances of management. businessand core agricultural practices.Our students are also trained to be sensitive and responsive to the needs of farmers, consumers and the society as a whole, along with ensuring of agri -enterprise viability and vitality. Their diverse skill set and knowledge base,and a keen learning attitude, enable them to be positive individuals, who can adapt to multiple roles,address new risksand challenges,and contribute to the growth of the business.
In short time, since the inception of PGDMA in 2009, the Academy has progressed steadily with the support of its dedicated faculty and rich pool of committed managers from the industry. Fostering Innovation and entrepreneurship for Business
Planning & Development in agriculture@ NAARM:
BPD unit at NAARM has been setup under the World Bank aided National Agriculture Innovation Project of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. It facilitates transforming innovative research ideas and products into commercial ventures through entrepreneurship and public-private partnerships. This unit plays an important role in promoting entrepreneurial attitude and bringing awareness about opportunities that technology entrepreneurship can bring into the local business environment for development and growth.
2. Research
The six key areas in which research is carried out by the Academy are Agribusiness Management, Human Resource Management, Education Systems Management, Extension Systems Management, Information and Communication Management and Research Systems Management.
3. Education
To be an integrated school of agricultural research management and a global institution of excellence, the Academy has initiated:
Two years regular programme : PG Diploma in
Management-Agriculture (PGDMA)approved by AICTE. One year Distance learning: PG Diploma in Technology
Management in Agriculture (PGDTMA)
4. Consultancy
Institutional and individual consultancies are undertaken in the areas related to Agribusiness, Human ResourceManagement and Extension Management.
5. Policy Support
The Academy supports the National Agricultural Research System by suggesting policy options to improve the efficiency and effectiveness through addressing concerns like Food and Nutritional Security, Good Governance, technology integration and Public Private Partnership.

With the rising use of Information Technology in business, NAARM has leveraged its strength in IT applications in agri business education and classroom environment. The academy introduced courses such as DBMS, SPSS, SAS, ERP and e-commerce for the students which distinguishes the technology savvy Agribusiness managers from others.

The services of the Academy are sought nationally as well as globally for enhancing individual and institutional performance and for organizational renewal and change. Agribusiness Knowledge centre was started by the Academy in year 2009 to disseminate the management knowledge in vital areas to the industries and vice versa.
Auditorium and Conference Halls
NAARM has a state-of-the-art, centrally air conditioned auditorium with 250 seating capacity, a Conference hall with 120 seating capacity, a committee hall and a seminar hall with 50 seating capacity each. All of them are well equipped with PAE system and LCD projection facility. They act as a common ground for students, faculty and corporate personalities for regular interface, interactions and other events.
Halls of Residence and Hospitality
NAARM offers individual, fully furnished, Wi-Fi enabled hostel rooms within the campus. Halls of Residence has a well-equipped Gym, 1V room, Reading & Discussion room, Photocopier unit along with 150 seated Air-Conditioned cafeteria serving a multi-mix of eating joints catering to multi culinary palette.
The hospitality facilities in campus include 6 suits, 30 air-conditioned rooms in International Guest
House and Scientist home with best in class infrastructure for delegates and Industry guests.
Sports Facilities & Health Care
At NAARM, sports form one of the most important aspects of a student's development. There are excellent facilities for work-outs, lifestyle management and interaction apart from games like Lawn Tennis, Football, Cricket, Basketball, Badminton and Volley Ball and indoor games like Chess, Carom, Billiards and Table Tennis in a state of art sports stadium. A well-equipped health centre with a qualified doctor is available for general health consultations.

Erudition
Erudition is a series of guest lectures to empower students. The Program aims at introducing students to different agribusiness functions and giving them a flavour of organizational culture. Industrial and Rural Visits
Industrial visits for management students have significant potential benefits for all involved. For the student, it is an opportunity to broaden their understanding of the industry and experiencing the practical application of theories learnt in class. For the industrial organization, it is an opportunity to showcase itself as a potential career destination to the students, whilst for the institution it is an opportunity to enrich the student experience through authentic learning.
During 2013-14 Following Visits Were Undertaken
• Visit to VRL logistics, Hubli to get acquainted with the operations management in logistics.
Visit to Gubba Cold Store, Hyderabad to have an understanding of inventory management and advances in warehousing industry, with special emphasis on seed business.
Visit to APMC Mandi, Mamcos (Shimoga, Karnataka) as a part of study tour to understand the processes, stakeholders involved, market prices, arrivals and various risks involved in Arecanut trading.
Visit to Mysore Paper Mills, Bhadravathi (Shimoga, Karnataka) to understand the paper making process as a part of
Operations management.

Vimarsha -"The Agribusiness forum"
Vimarsha provides a platform where students can practice their learning and polish their skills while contributing and winning new perspectives from peers. The club always appreciates ideas and updates related to agribusiness which may bring more discussionsand improve domain of skills. Vimarsha constantly thrives for new ways to share vibrant ideas that lie inside the budding Agri managers.
Sanskriti- "Event management & Cultural Club" Handling events inculcates the skills of planning, administration, team work, creativity, networking and crisis management in students. Sanskriti essentially looks to organize various events and festivals in campus to bring the students together and give them a platform to showcase their latent talents. One of the more popular undertakings of the club is the organization of'REVERIE' the annual cultural fest.
Tarang-"Pioneer Dom"
A successful business does not necessarily start with huge investment. Rather,it startswith simple ideas.The club aims to tap the potential ideas, which generally are thought of during coffee breaks in between lectures, and works towards their refinements. B - Plans are discussed by presenting it to all the students and their feasibility and capability is analysed.
Prakriti"-Caressing Nature" When it comes to be a trait like nature friendly, it can only be developed through right examples and demonstration. The club takes care of the plantation and landscaping activities of the campus. Prakriti works towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly environment.
Darpan-"Catechizing Curiosity & Intellect" Formed by a group of passionate quizzers, Darpan targets knowledge building through online quizzes, video/audio aids etc. The purpose of Darpan is to organize weekly business quiz 'MIRROR' and an annual intra campus quizzing contest 'PRATIBIMB'.

Keeping this very maxim in mind, the sequence of theory subjects and internships has been framed to ensure that students know exactly what they are expected to learn and apply during their eight-week long internships that they would be credited for in the course of their degree.
The strong batch of 22 students was placed in 16 organizations, reflects considerable response for each student from the industry. The sheer diversity of industrial sectors, allowed a high degree of student interest role fit. The organizations which offered summer placements to the students were:

The Final Placement of the batch 2012-14 resounded a remarkable successwith 16 renowned organizations, across diverse agribusiness sectors participating in the process, and offering recruitment to the batch of 24 students with the average CTC of 6.30 lacs.
The recruiters were highly impressed by the students for their business acumen, sound analytical skills, effective communication and leadership potential.
