Dear Bordewich Bray Families, We are off to a great start this school year! I would like to give a “shout out” to our amazing PTA for their support during our Meet and Greet this year! The Kona truck was a huge hit, es- pecially during our warm summer days. Parent engagement and participation is extremely important so thank you for attend- ing our Back-to-School Night with your child’s teacher. This is such an important night for our parents as they receive firsthand information regarding your child’s classroom expecta- tions and curriculum goals for the year. If you would like to be a part of our PTA, please join us the second Wednesday of every month in our library beginning at 3:30 PM. We would love your support and participation. I am very excited to announce that Bordewich Bray moved from a two star school to a THREE STAR school during the 2018-19 school year! This means that our school has met the state’s standard for performance. This is due to all of the hard work our students put into their academic performance on the state SBAC assessments and the classroom teacher’s rigorous in- struction preparing each of the student’s for success. In addi- tion to academic performance, our school is scored on our chronic absenteeism. Absenteeism is one of the areas that we really need help from the parents. All students need to be in school every day, all day. We understand that students get sick from time to time; however, our elementary school has the highest chronic absenteeism among all elementary schools in our district, as well as the overall district percentage. Last year we had 10.9% of our students considered chronically absent which is above the district’s overall percentage of 8.5%. School begins every day at 8:25 AM and students are dismissed at 3:15 PM, with the exception of Early Release and Minimum days. Thank you for any support that you can give to lower our student’s absenteeism rates. With fall quickly approaching and days becoming chilly, espe- cially in the morning, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for colder temperatures. Students can wear sweatshirts, jackets, beanies, and gloves outside to help keep them warm. We never know when winter temperature will set in. Enjoy the fall colors that will begin to appear in our community. Hope you have an enjoyable October.
