    A Great Tradition

    It gives me immense pleasure to welcome all the guests, eminent resource persons,

    delegates and students in the UGC sponsored one day National Seminar on Recent Trends in

    Chemical and Geological Sciences and its Relavance to Environmental Conservation on

    22nd December, 2012, jointly organized by Department of Geology and Chemistry of our

    Mahatma Gandhi Arts, Science and Late N.P. Commerce College, Armori. At the outset, let

    me thank all of you for accepting our invitation and being here with us.

    The champion of cause of education, agriculture and of the welfare of downtrodden,

    late Wamanraoji Wanmali cherished the dream of upliftment of the people of Gadchiroli and

    Chandarpur districts of Vidarbha. He is the spirit behind taking education to the doorsteps ofcommon people of this region. With this view, he founded Manoharbhai Shikshan Prasarak

    Mandal, Armori. He put his heart and soul in the expansion of educational activities all

    around. Now Manoharbhai Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, Armori is expanded to a great extent

    comprising many institutions, more than four thousand students and over 500 employees. The

    college aims to improve the quality of life, environment and society by imparting value

    education. The college is now considered as one of the acclaimed institution in Gondwana

    University. The staffs of the college put in hard labour to achieve excellent results. The

    students of this college reached new heights and are now occupying distinctive positions in

    all walks of life. The progress graph of this college is continuously rising higher and higher.

    The college has well developed campus which consists of ladies hostel, two separate

    buildings, well maintained play ground, audio visual seminar room, language laboratory and

    auditorium which is under-construction.

    The college offer some job oriented subjects like Geology, Microbiology and

    Computer Science. The college has started post graduate specialized courses like M.Sc.

    (Geology), M.Sc. (Chemistry), M.Sc. (Mathematics), M.A. (Marathi), M.A. (History) and

    M.A. (Economics). Almost all the departments have taken minor research projects and some

    departments have taken major research projects funded by the UGC. Besides the has some

    support services like departmental libraries, Herbal Medicine, Office Automation, Electrical

    Maintance, Computer center, sports facilities to cater to the needs of students. It is a matter of

    immense pride for us that in the year 2012, National Assessment and Accreditation Council

    (NAAC) Bangalore accredited this college as B Grade with CGPA of 2.88 on 4.0 point scale

    .The College also runs Career Oriented Programme sanctioned by UGC, NET/SET Guidance

    Centre, UPSC/MPSC Guidance Centre and Placement cell.

    Apart from achieving glory in academic field, the college promotes arts and culture by

    means of variety of extra- curricular activities in the college throughout the year. Our

    students also get regularly placed in some of the central and state Government organisations

    like Geological Survey of India, Oil & Natural Gas Corparation, Indian Bureau of Mines

    (IBM), Ground water survey & Development Agencies (GSDA), Directorate of Geology

    Mining (DGM) and reputed private mines. Every year our students got the honour of

    representing the state in Republic Day parade at New Delhi.

    This Seminar on Recent Trends in Chemical and Geological Sciences and its Relavance to

    Environmental Conservation will ignite thinking and sharing platform to creative minds for

    excellence in their domain. Once again, I congratulate all delegates, research scholars, post

    graduate students who are taking part in the Conference.
