Right nowRidgeland campus ispreppingforthepaintupgrades.TheCATEprojectisstillinthedesignphaseandtestsarebeingdoneonthesoil.Ms.BlizzardtellstheBoardthatnothinghasbeenpaidforyet,butwheninvoicesstartbeingsentandpaid,theBoardwillbeinformed.NovemberisstillthedateforbuildingphaseoftheCATEfacility.CERDEP–Dr.LaQuandraStevensonpresentstheBoardwithinformationregardingourCERDEP(SouthCarolinaEarlyReadingDevelopment andEducation Program).Dr. Stevenson explains to theBoard how the registrationprocesshastohappenandhowstricttherulesandregulationsare.Theymustcomplywithstateandlocallaws,they

arealsolicensedwithDSSandhavetocomplywithalltheirrules.Ifaparenttriestoregisteranddoesnothavealloftheproperdocumentationtheycannotbeaccepted.Ifweweretoacceptthem,wecouldloseourlicense.RightnowDr.Stevensonhas7registrationspotsaroundthecountyforparents.DistrictVehicles–DarrylOwenstellstheBoardhowtheirdistrictvehiclesare fencedinatnight forsafety.Theypreviouslyhavehad2theftsinthepast.Theyhavevideocamerasonthatcampus.PolicyCommitteeUpdate– JeroldMurrayshares that thePolicyCommitteearestillworkingonPolicyGbutaremovingrightalong.PriscillaGreenasksthatthepubliccommentssectionofPolicyBberevised.BJACEContract–KevinKargpresentstheboardwithaPowerPointpresentationoutliningthecurrentcontractfortheACEfacility.Heshareshisconcernsforthefuturecontract.Hesuggeststhatsoonerratherthanlater,thetwoBoards(BeaufortandJasper)needtomeet.Dr.DeboraButlerasksthatbothsuperintendent’stocomeupwithacontracttogether.ShewouldliketoseethisinplaceandsettledbeforeMr.Andrewsleaves.DeboraButlermakesamotionandissecondedbyKevinKargtodirecttheadministrationtoworkonacontractandhavereadywithin6weeks.THEMOTIONPASSED3‐2,with1abstainfromMs.Green.AYES:3(Butler,Karg,Murray)NAYS:2(Riley,Mitchell)ABSTAIN:1(Green)ACTIONITEMS–Recommendation from closed session–Dr. DianeRichardson asks the board for their vote on the hires and theresignationspresentedtotheminexecutivesession.THEMOTIONPASSED5‐0with1abstainfromDr.Butler.2018‐2019BoardofEducationMeetingCalendar–JeroldMurraymakesamotionandissecondedbyKevinKargtoaccepttheBOEMeetingCalendarforthe2018‐2019schoolyear.THEMOTIONPASSED6‐0.DeboraButlermakesamotionandissecondedbyDaisyMitchelltoextendthemeetingpast9:00P.M.THE

Teacherswould be able to track students’workvirtuallyandcheckinontheirwork.AllstatetestingforthecourseswouldbedoneatJCAP.Thisprogramwouldkeepstudents inoursystem.Mr.Ancrumasks fortheBoardtovotetoapprovethisprogramforthe2018‐2019schoolyear.AmotionismadebyBertyRileyandsecondedbyDeboraButlertoapprovetheHomeEducationalServicesinLieuofExpulsionforthe2018‐2019schoolyear.THEMOTIONPASSED8‐0.2018‐2019BUDGET–JenniferCartertellstheBoardthatJune27istheestimateddateforthestatenumberstobecompleted.Theyarestillindiscussionregardingfundingandwillhaveanewdefinitionofpoverty.Ms.Carteraskstheboardistheywouldliketotablethisreadingduetothelackofdefinitivenumberorwouldtheyliketoproceed.
