Freedom for EveryoneThe Fourth of July weekend was coming up, and the preschool teacher took the opportunity to tell her class about patriotism.

“We live in a great country,” she said. “One of the things we should be happy is that, in this country, we are all free.”

One little boy came walking up to her from the back of the room. He stood with his hands on his hips and said, “I'm not free. I'm four.”

“Some people ask the secret of our long marriage. We take time to go to a restaurant two times a week. A little candlelight, dinner, soft music and dancing. She goes Tuesdays, I go Fridays.”

Quick Tips: Green LivingTrouble with ants? Instead of reaching for that can of insecticide, pour a small bottle of peppermint oil into a pump spray bottle, add a few drops of dishwashing liquid and top off with cold water. Recap it and give it a couple good shakes. Spray porch seats, benches, and other outdoor items and furniture to keep ants away without harming the environment.

A ring of coffee grounds around sensitive plants can discourage ants from investigating them.

Big ant problem? Pouring boiling water into a nest kills ants and eggs as effectively as any chemical.

Quick Tips: OrganizingEntertaining outdoors during the summer can be a pleasure, but it can involve more work and risk than entertaining indoors. To make things easier and safer, organize your outdoor living space. Clean your grill and stock a cabinet nearby with all your barbecuing tools. Have an ice chest handy to minimize trips into the house for beverages. Place all of your gardening tools, equipment, and chemicals out of sight in a shed or storage container. Finally, store your hose in a hose pot or on a rack off the ground to minimize trips and stumbles.

Patt’s Corner: The Achilles Heel of Cyber SecurityHuman error is nothing new. A recent Computer Weekly article calculates that humans (“wetware”) caused the majority (62%) of Data Breaches. 60 Minutes on April 17 advised us that “with social engineering, you can't really fix the human element. Humans are gullible. They install malicious applications. They give up their passwords every day. And it's really hard to fix that human element.”

Companies need to protect their data from employees with the same level of commitment as they do from hackers. The responsibility of proactively planning for the worst is not merely the responsibility of the C-suite personnel and MSPs but each and every one of us. We are all savvy to the concept of modifying passwords and have read horror studies of a misplaced or stolen laptop which may or may not be encrypted and phishing techniques that theoretically would not deceive a child. It is equally important that we familiarize ourselves with breach protection and timely reporting sooner rather than later.

DataSafe is proud to offer Data Breach Reporting Service among our suite of offerings. As we reach our 70th anniversary, we continue to invest our time and energy into our service offerings to help you stay protected and to keep your information safe.

Serving the Greater Sacramento Area for six decades spanning a two-generation history, Lyon has nearly 1000 agents in 17 offices throughout the four-county region. We have successfully evolved by maintaining Lyon’s family values of honesty, integrity, and respect - combining them with the spirit of continuous innovation and a quest for excellence. These characteristics, practiced by a progressive leadership team and talented agents and staff, form our company culture.

Testimonial from Lyon Real Estate:“We have been very pleased with the level of service that DataSafe provides. Our orders are always fulfilled quickly and accurately, and it has been extremely helpful to have a personal account executive to answer any questions. We have been preparing a large project and they have not only helped verify items in the warehouse personally, but checked in on our status periodically to ensure it is running smoothly. We have had three prior long term storage companies, and this is the highest level of quality we have experienced. Thank you!”
