Submitted Grant for Neighborhood Communications System Investigated Radio Neighborhood Watch Distributed monthly bulletin Updating the Community Wildfire Protection Plan

From late March to the present, is your life a bit different and maybe somewhat more challenging? All ages and stages have been affected by Covid-19 and the resulting adjustments. Hopefully, you’re weathering this stage with good health and only minor inconvenience. Many have found a way to give back in this unusual environment. One neighborhood group has made hundreds of masks; one neighbor shares calming photos of nature; another created a tiny lending library. These are positive can-do actions in an uncertain time! What is the EDHFD’s Community Risk Reduction Division? As an overview, they work to provide a safe community for citizens and visitors of El Dorado Hills, Latrobe and Rescue. They recognize and prioritize local risks and invest resources (both emergency operations and prevention) to reduce this oc-currence and impact. Their accomplishments listed in this April-June 2020 report are pretty impressive:

Completed 197 site, building and fire protection plan reviews and 480 construction inspections

Completed 2,068 fire inspections of vacant parcels to ensure that the owner(s) complied with the District’s order to reduce the wildfire risk to adjacent homes and properties

Completed 54 fire and life safety inspections of residential and commercial occupancies

Worked with County of El Dorado officials to develop a memorandum of understanding regarding inspection responsibilities associated with the CA Building Standards Codes

Worked with County of El Dorado and area fire agency officials to implement the County Vegetation Management/Defensible Space ordinance and complaint process

Completed one 20-hour Level III Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course for 8 community members The Fire Safe Council applauds this very active presence and significant efforts. Our FSC has enjoyed support and a positive partner-ship with EDH Fire Dept., and especially with the Community Risk Reduction Division. Over the years, our organization has greatly benefitted from the support of different fire marshals and their effective staffs. They have a similar mission and objectives as the Fire Safe Council; they’re proactive! SUPPORT YOUR FIRE DEPARTMENT!

The Lakehills Fire Safe Council posts on NextDoor (to the LakeForest group) and has a Facebook page. Please find us at www.facebook.com/LakehillsFireSafe. Monthly meetings are open to all.

NEW FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT: Announcing the first of the CAL FIRE Hawks, an S70i helicopter, is now in service and ready to take to the skies. Born a BLACK HAWK helicopter, the Sikorsky FIREHAWK aircraft relies on its proven military design

to endure the unrelenting physical stresses demanded of the aerial firefighting and utility missions. The S-70i FIREHAWK helicop-ter brings extra power margin when dropping water or inserting firefighters at the fire line; 4 g maneuverability when fully loaded; a stronger airframe; and greater water drop control. It can be quickly reconfigured in flight for search and rescue, hoist rescues and medical transport, even with its 1,000-gallon external water tank attached. Flies in HIGH WINDS, SMOKE OR NIGHT SKIES!

FUEL BREAKS WORK! The Hog Fire is an excellent example of how a strategic fuel break can help prevent a devastating wild-fire from entering a community. Watch video to learn how CAL FIRE uses fuel breaks to slow or reduce the spread of fire.

The setting is a desk, magically progressing from a push pin forest to a savanna, to a bird sanctuary and then to swimming fish! The iconic World Wide Fund for Nature’s panda makes a guest appearance at the conclusion of the video.
