Tourists are welcome but this is very much a local institution so don't expect special treatment and you will enjoy yourself. If you go make the effort with a dobry den when you enter, take a seat (or find somewhere to stand) give a nod to barman who will come to you when he's ready "pivo prosim" will get you a perfect pilsner urquell, they will keep coming until you ask for the bill. Tourists TrapExtremely rude staff!!! Awful service, and even if the food is good, it is definitely not worth it. We waited more than an hour for our food. At the end when the bill came, the waiter gave me less change and, when I asked him why (I just noticed after 1minute) he told us tip was not included! So... He just assumed he deserved a 10% tip without asking!!!! Attention to these scams because tipping is not obligatory and specially when the service is bad you should not tip. Don't go there...T5

This restaurant is awful. Looks rather nice, but it is an actual tourist trap! We went there in a large group of 14 people. We found pretzels on the table. The waiter brought us more and it seemed they were complementary, since we didn't ask for them. So we had some. Might have been around 20 or 25 pretzels. When we got the check, we found out we had to pay 30 euro worth of pretzels. And it's not all. there were some other 15 euros we had to pay for dips. There were 14 portions of dips on the check, even if some of us only had soup or beer. And these dips were also on the table, not some fancy awesome dips, but one plastic container with ketchup and one with mustard. The ones you find in supermarkets. And there's more... The check was handwritten in Czech, we had to ask the waiter what is everything there, so we can pay our shares. Only when we did that we found out about the costs of the pretzels and the dips. And, as everything wasn't enough, we asked for good Czech beer and we got some draught beer that tasted more like water. The food is average and there's not a big selection either. 

So, all in all, please don't go to U Vejvodu! It will ruin your Prague tourist experience! T7

Food is quite good, bus service is bad, waiters are rude and even complaining if you don't tip them well. Tried to overcharge us with something we didn't even eat! For main touristic season (new year's and similar) they almost double beer & food prices. Avoid this restaurant...T8

We left this place in a really bad mood. The waiters are very slowly. The didn't hurry to bring us a bill but they included a bagel which was in the table though we didn't oder it. Of'course it was over-priced. This pub has good location so they don't care about respecting visitors.

You have to watch out: (T20)- for the pretzels (you have to pay for them), - double check the bill - waiter may add up things you didn't order and didn't receive- waiters are always very busy, sometimes with standing at the bar and chatting- always leave a 15% tip if you want to come back ;)

Several years ago we were here and had a lousy experience. Service was extremely slow (more that 45mins to take our drink order), snotty responses to our complaints, etc. So we avoided the restaurant for over seven years. We are glad we returned. The food still is excellent. Focussed menue, strong and honest Czech cuisine. And if you are lucky, you are attended by Sara. Quick, winning smile, funny and friendly. Thank you Sara! Four of us had an amazing lunch sat at a table over looking the Charles Bridge. The food was amazing, especially the bisque to start and our waiter Petr was absolutely brilliant, he couldn't

We had reserved a table at the front overlooking the river and the Charles bridge and were glad to have done so as the view of the bridge in the evening was stunning. The service was very good, extremely welcoming staff and the food was excellent. We both had the duck crispy rolls to start and then the beef tenderloin special which was very good. Puddings were excellent too and the wine, although pricey by the glass was of good quality. Would definitely recommend for a special evening. T10

We were unable to get dinner reservations on short notice at this elegant restaurant but we did drop by for lunch while walking from the gardens below Prague Castle on our way to Charles Bridge. It's a little hard to find but if you stay close to the river, you'll see a little inset with cafes and the restaurant is located right on the river below that. We were surprised at how large the restaurant is and how modern and sophisticated everything was, but the terrace overlooking the river and the Charles Bridge is the real stunner. We got some incredible photos of us sitting at our table with the bridge in the background. Now on to the food - excellent! We had a delicious chicken Caesar salad with wine for a light lunch and the presentation was 1st class and they have an impressive wine list. Our server was very friendly and helpful and we had a relaxing and very enjoyable respite from the crowds. Our bill was a little higher than other places in Prague, but well worth the food and the location, and still reasonable. I can only imagine how breathtaking this restaurant would be in the evening for dinner. Make reservations ahead of time and don't miss this gem of a place!  T12

We wanted to make our last evening count and decided to go to a fancy place we located earlier in our wanders. The restaurant is situated alongside the northern shore of the Vltava. It has a quite impressive, modern yet warm looking interior. However it does not beat its terrace with view on the other side of the city, the Charles Bridge and the lights reflecting in the darkening waters.

Regarding the food, the menu is well yet not too furnished. We went for a spinach soup and gambas salad for starters and foie gras burger and the boar as main dishes. Everything was excellent, the meat well cooked and tender. The wine menu will certainly please connoissers as well. 

Last but not least, we had the most caring and pleasant waiter. Present but not oppressive, of sound advice but not imposing and funny to interact with. He gave our evening the touch required to make it perfect.

All in all, if you're looking for a fancy pleasant dinner, this is where to go. It will be worth the price without a doubt (and for Western European standards, it is still really affordable).

This bar was suggested by a friend who came here years ago. We found it easy enough. Not very big but as they say, " size doesn't matter!!"What a fantastic bar!! The Pilsner is the best I have tasted in Prague and at about £1 a pint,perfect!! I tried the pickled Camembert and it was lovely. There is more on the menu .We popped in the next day fora couple of pints and will do so tomorrow on our final day here. The 2 guys that run it are kind enough to tourists who don't speak any Czech. This is one of the few classical Czech pubs located in the heart of Prague. As other reviewers mention, this is a local place where even some members of Parliament go for a beer (Parliament is nearby). It is not a top notch place regarding interier but this is not important for this type of place. It is about beer, food and people. Prices are very decent, Beer is Pilsen and it is absolutely excellent. I would say they got best Pilsen in Prague. Food is very traditional Czech and very decently priced. You have to keep in mind that this type of place/pub has very strict code of conduct towards visitors. Waiters are very straight and they dont speak English but this is feature is included in this type of pub. I just love this place.

PS It is very hard to get a seat or even place for standing so be prepare for it.

This is a must when climbing up the castle hill. The beer is always at its best and the service is stiff but fast. A reminiscent of the good old days of Praque.

Every trip to Prague we've been on over the many year's of visiting this wonderful city ,we alway's pay this pub a visit as it is still one of the best most traditional unspoilt pub's in the city.On our last visit we were here on a Saturday night and this pub was as it alway's is very very busy.We went in and within 1 minute of entering the pub we had a lovely beer in our hand's ,love the service and everything else about this very old pub.The atmosphere in here is always superb,a good mix of local's and in the know tourist's,just superb.The interior is great lot's of Hippo's adorn the wall's and shelves but this is to be expected in a pub named in honour of that wonderful animal.We stayed for a couple of beer's each as the PILSNER URQUELL BEER is just so good here, as is the price.It's not to hard to find ,jump the tram down to MALOATRANSKE NAMESTI tram12.20.22.57.or 91 then walk onto street of the same name heading toward's ST NICHOLAS CHURCH ( KOSTEL SU MIKULASE) walk down SNEMOVNI onto THUNOVSKA were you will find this lovely pub that is certainly well worth checking out.Opening hour's are,Monday to Sunday,midday till 11.30pm.A pub that will live long in your memory if T20

Not loyal customersSat in this place for around 3hrs, came out smelling strongly of grease. Miserable waiter. Food was ok, although a colleague had the rib eye steak which looked like it had been cut off a scabby donkey. Beer pretty good. Won't be in a hurry to return

Waiters are very straight and they dont speak English but this is feature is included in this type of pub. I just love this place. T16 atmosphere local

, great service, and good banter with the barmen. Their English wasn't good, which didn't matter! They made a real effort to engage with us and ended up having a great afternoon in the hippopotamus > T18 because of the local atmosphere
