Below the map, left, a frieze containing seven shields bearing the arms of :- Fane Earl of \Vestmorland, Bontvillian. Pipewell Abbey, the borough of BrackIey, one I have been unable to get identified, a second one of Fane, and Fitz Eustace respectively. Above the last mentioned is a larger hield urmounted by a bishop's mitre and bearing the arms of the See of Peterborough. On the right of these i a view of Peterborough Cathedral. Below the frieze is the imprint. The back is plain.
Thi work was first i ued in parts, which commenced publication in ~ fa) 183. I do not know when the part containing orthamptonhire wa i sued. The map was reprinted in 1837, 1838 (twice), 1839,
and with the imprint removed, about 1842, 1844, 1848, 1850 and 1 52.

Villages, hills, parliamentary representation, places of election, polling place , canals, the London and Birmingham Railway, river and roads. Post roads are coloured blue and other main road buff.
Top, left, downwards, the title in a lozenge shaped frame, the cal ,a tatistical note in which the popUlation of the county is 179,276,
and a note regarding the parliamentary boroughs; left centre, a finely engraved star compass indicator. Bottom, right centre, a list of the

The border is formed by a thick line between two fine one with a double inner line marked off into degr es and minutes of latitude and longitude. Below the bottom border, the imprint. The back is plain.

The British 1useum posses es several county maps, including the above one of orthamptonshire, strongly resembling tho e in Cary's ew a1'td Correct English Atlas and bearing imprints as abov . Chubb thought the e may be from an atlas which was mentioned in an entry in The Lond01~ Catalogue of Books published in. Great Britain from 1814-1846. The atlas however eem to be at pre ent unknown.
It hows town , village , park , hundred , hill, river , canal , and main and econdary road. The two parliamentary divi ions are shown, outlined in colour.
Top left, the title in a hatched lozenge which i et acro a tar compa indicator, with the cale below. On the right, a list of th hundreds, with a table of "Explanation" to the left of it. The border i formed by two thick lines and a very fine line with a double inner line marked off into degrees and minutes of latitude and longitude. Below the bottom border, the imprint.
Thi map wa evidently prepar d considerably in advance of the above date. It shows the never con tructed canal from orthampton to :\farket Harborough and doe not how a railway.
