Preparing to Hear God’s Word

Introit Stroman

Serve the Lord with Gladness Welcome

We Worship in Song Now Thank We All Our God Pilgrim Hymnal 29

Now thank we all our God with heart and hands and voices, who wondrous things hath done, in whom his world rejoices,

who, from our mothers’ arms, hath blessed us on our way with countless gifts of love, and still is ours today.

O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us, with ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us,

and keep us in his grace, and guide us when perplexed, and free us from all ills in this world and the next.

All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given, the Son, and him who reigns with them in highest heaven,

the one eternal God, whom heaven and earth adore, for thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.

O Praise Ye the Lord! C. Hubert H. Parry O praise ye the Lord! Praise him in the height;

rejoice in his word, ye angels of light; ye heavens, adore him by whom ye were made, and worship before him, in brightness arrayed.

O praise ye the Lord! Praise him upon earth, in tuneful accord, all you of new birth;

praise him who hath brought you his grace from above, praise him who hath taught you to sing of his love.

O praise ye the Lord! All things that give sound; each jubilant chord re-echo around;

loud organs, his glory forth tell in deep tone, and sweet harp, the story of what he hath done.

Presbyterian Church in Canada

Prayer of Invocation God, you who have created and who sustains us: we come with thanksgiving for these moments when we can ease the pace of our lives and listen for your voice. Create a spirit within us that truly draws us toward you and toward our brothers and sisters: a spirit deep, perceptive, gentle, bold and grateful. Clear our minds, open our hearts, and touch us with your presence and your power. We offer this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ our friend and our Savior. Amen.

Hearing God’s Word

Scripture Reading Sally Calimoso Luke 17:11-19

11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” 14 When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. 15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. 17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God!

Responding to God’s Word

Song of Response There is a Redeemer Keith Green

There is a redeemer, Jesus, God's own Son, precious Lamb of God, Messiah, Holy One.

Chorus: Thank You, O my Father, for giving us your Son, and leaving your Spirit 'til the work on earth is done.

Jesus my redeemer, name above all names, precious Lamb of God, Messiah O, for sinners slain. (Chorus)

When I stand in glory I will see His face, and there I'll serve my king forever in that holy place. (Chorus)

Pastoral Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Offertory

Song of Commitment Be Still, My Soul Pilgrim Hymnal 77

Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side. Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain. Leave to thy God to order and provide; in every change, He faithful will remain.

Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heav’nly Friend through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: the hour is hast’ning on when we shall be forever with the Lord.

When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone, sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.

Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
