Family Life• The head of the family was the OLDEST

MALE and he made all the decisions• The mother was less important than the

father.• The mother was expected to do all the

housework (cooking, cleaning and raise the children)

• If the family was rich they had slaves to do the work.

School• Most children did not go to school because their

family could not afford it.

• Only boys and girls from wealthy families went to school, poorer children had to work.

• Girls usually finished school when they were 12yrs old

• Teenage boys went to GRAMMAR SCHOOL until they were 16yrs old
