Doris LaVerne Adkison, 43, was born in Mansfield, Ohio, on May 13, 1970, and she entered

into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Doris’ reunion with Jesus took place at

MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield with her devoted mom by her side.

Doris was a 1988 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School where she was involved in numerous

activities. Her athletic ability, particularly as a varsity cheerleader, was widely recognized

among all who knew her. After Doris completed her studies at Mansfield High, she attended

North Central Technical College and Ashland University, where she majored in human resources

as an Honor Student.

Doris was employed by the State of Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles as a customer services repre-

sentative and later she became a team member at Star Tek, Inc. An active member of Mt. Her-

mon Baptist Church, Doris lit up when she danced before the Lord in the church’s Mime Ministry.

She was also known throughout Ohio for her dedication to the church’s Puppet Ministry where she

performed together with her dear “Mommy.” Doris truly enjoyed music and demonstrated her

love for Christ as a member of the Sanctuary Choir and through the many religious plays she

wrote and directed. She was especially recognized for her remarkable play, “If the Shoe Fits.”

Doris and her fellow cast members presented the highly-acclaimed production many times

throughout the city.

Doris’ spirit lives on through her parents, Carolyn A. Adkison and Dwight S. Adkison and in her

beautiful daughter, Sheniqua Adkison. Her beloved brother, Michael Adkison, will forever cherish

the great times of love and laughter he shared with his best friend.

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,

When funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,

As every one of us sometimes learns,

And many a failure turns about,

When he might have won if he'd stuck it out.

Don't give up, though the pace seems slow -

You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than

It seems to a faint and faltering man;

Often the struggler has given up

When he might have captured the victor's cup,

And he learned too late, when the night slipped down,

How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out -

The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,

And you never can tell how close you are -

It may be near when it seems afar;

So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit -

It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit.

Doris will also be remembered by her niece, Caitlyn Carper, Mansfield, and her nephew,

Michael Adkison, Jr., Hillsdale, Ohio. Her five aunts, Mary Smith and Bennie Shoulders, Mans-

field; Maxine Kidd and Pamela Kidd, Sandusky; and Doris (James) White, Cincinnati, will love

her until the end of time. And, her four uncles, John (Lynda) Kidd, Mansfield; Robert Kidd,

Nashville; Thomas Bond, Shiloh, Ohio; and American Sanders, Sandusky, will always hold her

dear in their hearts. Doris’ many cousins and friends, who were mostly like family, celebrate

her life and promise to keep her legacy alive.

Doris’ paternal grandparents: Andrew and Katie Irving; maternal grandparents, Ivy and

Mary Kidd; and maternal grandparents, Rev. Johnnie and Malissa Swope preceded her in

death.

A beautiful child of God, Doris touched so many lives during her journey here on earth. Her

living and even her suffering is a testimony to her phenomenal strength, her courage, and

especially her joy. With just “one more river to cross,” Doris put her hand in the hand of

Jesus and valiantly taught us all how to face life’s greatest challenge. “My baby finally has

her rest,” says her mom, Carolyn. “I praise God for his mercy and bless Him that her suffer-

ing is over and she is now at home with Him!”

Gone, but not forgotten, Doris’ spirit

will live in our hearts forever.

We are so very grateful for all of the love that was shown to Doris during her

illness and throughout our time of bereavement. Your prayers, telephone

calls, words of encouragement, and each and every act of kindness made her

days so much brighter. Your unforgettable support meant the world to her

and truly ministered to her in ways too numerous to mention.

Simply know that your thoughtfulness touches the core of our hearts. We are

strengthened by your presence here today and moreover by your continued

compassion toward our family. It gives us great joy to gather with you to

celebrate Doris’ life. We leave you with these words which best embody our

Doris’ spirit, “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in be-

lieving, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”

Romans 15:13
