Nocturnes”. We do share the intimacies of living along the Northern California Coast. “Snap Sessions” my interview by Doug Nunn. And, “The Fen” a walking and painting diary of our local wilderness.

Once upon a time,
I was invited over to a new friend’s home to see some etchings.
I am an artist. I love art.
My new friend had no etchings, had other intensions. I had a good laugh.
I chose to not be disappointed, I left the house.
I went home to my cat, Slippers.
I mentioned I saw a need in this world to make some etchings that really work.
To do what the etching’s purpose is of moving aesthetics along.
Slippers did not pose, but that didn’t stop me. –JM

Slippers is my dear cat friend.
She has lived with me since she could fitwithin the palm of my hand.
I cannot leave my books open.We bookmark pages differently.
Oreo lives next door. His roommate screams in horror as he presents her one of his gifts.
Sweet guy, he brings them to me,
or perhaps that was a
gift for Slippers?

Once upon another time, I was a close neighbor with a Veterinarian.He had nineteen cats, seven dogs, two aging horses, a donkey and a tortoise.
I learned all their names within two months. I was the artist known as a cat person.

BIRTHDAYSFOR THISMONTH?
In spring Slippers met Oreo in our back yard.
She was eight months old.
He was much older by almost four years.
Slippers is first and foremost a princess.
She takes forever cleaning up after using the cat box.
Oreo is a swashbuckler. He climbsto the roof of the house, leaps onto the hood of my car.
After such a noise I strive to be . . . alert.

Or, perchance later when we are older and maybe wiser, we realize that love leaves a mark upon our hearts?

Most cats accept

Oreo did not leave Slippers’ side for a whole week.
Slippers began to nap a lot,
so Oreo got involved with caterpillars.

Slippers’ and Oreo’s had six kittens, Smokey moved in with us.
His brothers and sisters found good homes whenI took them all to Safeway’s parking lot.
We spayed Slippers –– she’s OK, she just sleeps a lot.

Smokey was growing up so fast while Slippers sat and looked out the front window. Slippers is a character; she gets emotional at the birds pecking on our front lawn.
She muttered at them, “Wacka . . . Wacka . . . Wacka” – etc. etc. – etcetera.
