do Cacâ



―Twinkle, twinkle, little star,how I wonder what you are!‖Lincoln sang, as he lay on aleaf, staring up at the starry night sky.

―Up above the world so high,‖Wallace joined in, and the twocontinued the chorus together,―Like a diamond in the sky.‖

— Brilha, brilha, estrelinha, Eume pergunto onde estarâ? —

cantava o Cacâ, o corpodeitado sobre uma folha,

admirando o céu estrelado. — Lâ em cima, lâ no céu — , Vítor começou a cantar e aícantaram juntos o refräo, —

Como um diamante a brilhar!



Lincoln and Wallace sang therest of the lullaby together.

When it came to an end they were silent.

Lincoln sighed. ―I wish I could

write a lullaby,‖ he said, sitting

up and facing Wallace.

―Why don’t you try?‖ Wallaceasked.

―I don’t think I can. I’ve never

written a song before. But Ilove singing lullabies.‖

―You should try,‖ Wallaceencouraged. ―I think you

could write a beautiful lullaby.‖

―I guess I should give it a

try, but…‖ Lincoln started,

then his sentence trailed off.―I’ll think about it.‖

Cacâ e Vítor cantaram juntos oresto da cantiga de ninar, e ao

terminar ficaram em silêncio.Cacâ suspirou: — Quem medera compor uma cançäo deninar, — disse olhando parao Vítor.

— Por que näo tenta comporuma? — perguntou seu amigo.

— Acho que näo consigo.Nunca compus uma cançäoantes. Mas adoro cantar docescançöes.

— Acho que deve tentar, — encorajou Vítor. — Eu achoque você consegue.

— É, acho que devo tentar,mas…— começou a falarCacâ, mas sua frase näo

terminou. — Vou pensarno assunto.



The two friends said goodnight, andturned over on their leaves. Wallace

was soon fast asleep; however, Lincolnstayed awake thinking about thelullaby he longed to write.

I wonder if I could

really writeone, he thought.

I should probably try. But what if I

can’t do it — what then?

Os dois amigos se despediramcom um boa-noite eaninharam-se em suas folhas.

Vítor logo adormeceu;Cacâ, contudo, continuouacordado pensando nacançäo que queria compor..

Serâ que realmenteconsigo compor umacançäo, — pensouele. Talvez deveria

tentar. Mas e se eunäo conseguir

que fareientäo?



The next day Lincoln flew off to a quiet spot. He decidedthat he was going to givesongwriting a try.

Finding the perfect blade of grass for composing, hesettled down and wassoon deep in thought.

―What should I

write itabout?—A star?‖

he thoughtaloud, andthen shook

his head.―The night

animals?‖

He scrunchedup his face,disliking the idea.

―Hmmm, the dark? Nightsounds?‖

Lincoln let out a distressedwail. ―I can’t even think of

what to write my lullaby about;

how am I ever going to evenstart?‖

No dia seguinte, Cacâ vooupara um local quieto. Decidiuque ia experimentar sercompositor.

Encontrou uma folhinha degrama perfeita onde compor,sentou-se e logo estavatotalmente absorto.

— Sobre oque devofalar? Sobre

umaestrela? —

pensou em voz alta, mas

depoissacudiu acabeça. —

Sobre os animaisda noite? — Balançou

a cabeça reprovando a idéia. —

Humm, sobre a escuridäo? Ossons da noite? —

Cacâ suspirou desanimado. —

Nem consigo pensar num temapara a minha cançäo de ninar;

como vou sequer conseguircomeçâ-la?



Discouraged that he couldnot accomplish what he solonged to, he exclaimed: ―I’ll

never be good at anything! This is terrible; I should’ve

never even tried.‖

Desanimado por näopoder realizar o quetanto desejara,

exclamou: — Nuncaserei bom em nada!Que coisa terrível!Nem devia ter tentado.



Just then a voice sounded

behind him. ―Thereyou are! I’ve been looking for

you.‖ It was Wallace.By this time Lincoln was very distraught and frustrated.

―What’s wrong?‖ Wallace asked,noticing Lincoln’s unhappy

face.Lincoln shrugged and let out asigh. ―Remember last nightwhen I said I wanted to write alullaby?‖

―Uh—huh,‖ Wallace answered.

―After thinking about it somemore, I decided that I’d try andwrite one today. But I couldn’teven think of what to write thelullaby about. I tried and tried,

but I didn’t come up withanything. I can’t do it!‖ he cried.

Foi então queouviu uma voz atrás dele.―Aí está você! Eu estavaprocurando-o.‖ Era o Vítor.

Cacá, nesta altura docampeonato estava muitoangustiado e frustrado.

―O que há de errado?‖perguntou Vítor, reparandono rosto triste de Cacá.

Cacá deu de ombros esuspirou. ―Lembrase queontem à noite eu lhe disseque queria compor umacanção de ninar?‖

―Lembro‖, respondeu Vítor.―Depois de pensar um poucomais sobre o assunto, decidicompô-la hoje. Mas nãoconsegui nem achar um temapara ela. Tentei muito, mas não

encontrei nada. Não sirvo pracompositor!‖ concluiu ele.



— Oh! — disse Vítor — Sintomuito por isso, mas você näopode desistir; precisa continuartentando. Às vezes precisa tentar

vârias vezes até acertar.

— Mas näo consigo! — disseCacâ, exasperado. — Nunca vouconseguir compor uma cantigade ninar!

Vítor parou por umminuto, e entäo

virou-se paraseu amigo. — Você orou epediu a Deus

para ajudâ-lo? — disse.

Cacâ olhoupara baixo e

sacudiu a cabeçaem sinal negativo.

— Pois deveria fazer isso, — disse Vítor. — Tenho certezaque Ele vai ajudâ-lo. E depois, sequiser, eu também posso ajudâ-lo. Eu também nunca compusuma cantiga de ninar. Vai ser aprimeira vez para nôs dois, maspodemos fazer isso juntos coma ajuda de Deus.

―Oh,‖ his friend said. ―I’msorry about that, but youcan’t just give up; you have tokeep trying. Sometimes youhave to try over and over

again until you get it right.‖―But I can’t!‖ Lincoln said,exasperated. ―I won’t beable to write a lullaby, ever!‖

Wallace thought for

a minute,and thenturned tohis friend.―Did youpray and ask God to helpyou?‖ he said.

Lincolnlooked downand shook hishead.

―You should,‖ Wallace said.―I’m sure He’d help you.Then, if you want, I couldhelp you as well. I’ve neverwritten a lullaby beforeeither. It will be a first for

both of us, but we can do ittogether with God's help.‖



A smile spread acrossLincoln’s face. ―I like that

idea,‖ he said. ―You’re a

great friend, Wallace.‖

The two friends bowed theirheads to pray.

―God, please cheer Lincoln

up,‖ Wallace prayed. ―Help us

now as we write thislullaby. Show us

what to write thissong about, andeven give us the

words for it. Also,help us to keep

trying even when itdoesn’t seem to

work. Amen.‖

―I thought of

something,‖

Lincolnsaid. Whatif we

wrote` about

nighttime

sounds?‖

O rosto de Cacâ se iluminoucom um sorriso. — Gosteidessa idéia, — disse ele. —

Você é um amigäo, Vítor.

Os dois amigos abaixaram acabeça para orar.

— Deus, por favor, anime oCacâ, — orou o Vítor. —

Ajude-nos agora a compor essacançäo de ninar.

Mostre-nos qualdeve ser o tema, eaté mesmo, nos dê aletra. E também nosajude a continuartentando mesmo

quando parecer quenäo estamosconseguindo.

Amém.

— Pensei

em algo, — disseCacâ. — Ese falâssemossobre os sonsda noite?



―I like that! What would you think about singing it for Drudy, Bitsand Fiery once it’s written?‖

Soon the words and tune to thelullaby started coming together. Every

time Wallace and Lincoln got stuck,they would bow their heads andask God to help them, and He did.Before long, they had their lullaby.

— Gostei da idéia! Que acha de

cantarmos a cançäo para Dora, Cacâ eLulu quando terminarmos?

Logo a letra e a melodia da cançäocomeçaram a se encaixar. Sempre que

Vítor e Cacâ ficavam empacados,abaixavam a cabeça e pediam a Deus

para ajudâ-los, e Ele fazia isso. Näodemorou muito e acabaram a cançäo.



That night, in the moonlight,Lincoln and Wallace sang their

lullaby for their friends.

―That was beautiful!‖ exclaimed

Bits when they were done. ―I’d like tol earn to sing it, too.‖

Fiery nodded her head, liking the ideaas well. Lincoln couldn’t have been happier.

Naquela noite, Cacâ e Vítorcantaram sua cantiga de ninar para

os amigos.

— Que linda! — exclamou Luluquando terminaram. — Eu queriaaprender a cantâ-la. —

Faísca também gostou da idéia emeneou a cabeça

afirmativamente. Cacâ näopodia estar mais feliz.



A Nighttime Lullaby

When darkness covers the sky,And stars twinkle up on high,I love to listen to all thesounds,That nighttime brings around.

I hear the crickets’ song;The frogs also sing along.Shhh, I can hear the breeze,

Rustling the grass and leaves.Hush now, and listen well,There’s a nighttime taleTold to all, near and far,No matter where you are.

Os Sons da Noite

Quando a escuridäo chegaE as estrelas entäo reluzem

Adoro quietinho escutarOs sons que väo começar

Ouço a cançäo do grilo,Os sapos fazendo coro.

A brisa sopra e cai o orvalho As folhas dançam nos galhos

Fiquem quietinhos e escutemEsta histôria täo lindaQue dos sons da noite falaEm todo lugar se podeescutâ-la.

It’s important to keeptrying, no matter how difficult or impossiblesomething may seem. If you ask God to help, He'll

be there for you.
