Chipola will offer select services from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day was founded in 2003 by Barbara Paget who recruits salons and cosmetology schools to participate. Chipola Cosmetology instructor Paige Vanderwerf, says, “Chipola is participating in this event because we believe that community service is important to the success and growth of our stylists.” For more information on Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day at Chipola, call 850-718-2439. Chipola foundation offers money for college The Chipola Foundation will award more than $500,000 in scholarships for qualified students who attend the college during the 2015-16 school year. Scholarships are available for a variety of majors. The Fall Application Deadline is Thursday, June 4. Visit www.chipola.edu/ foundation for a listing of scholarships. To be eligible for a particular scholarship, students must satisfy all of the requirements outlined in the scholarship description. Scholarships awarded through the Chipola Foundation are supported by private donations with scholarship criteria set by the donors. To apply, complete the scholarship application(s) and submit the required attachments listed on the application by 4 p.m. on June 4. Applicants who require assistance with the application process are encouraged to apply early and contact the Chipola Foundation office staff for help prior to the deadline week. Completed scholarship packages for scholarships offered through the Chipola Foundation may be delivered or mailed to: Chipola College Foundation, 3094 Indian Circle, Marianna, Florida 32446. Applications for scholarships awarded through other organizations are mailed to the addresses indicated in each scholarship description. Cancer Survivor Day is June 3 In observance of Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day on Wednesday, June 3, the Chipola Cosmetology program will join with other salon professionals nationwide to offer complimentary cosmetology services for cancer survivors and those living with cancer. Chipola is now accepting applications for the EMT and Paramedic programs. Application deadline for both programs is Aug. 6. The Paramedic Program requires current licensure as a Florida Emergency Medical Technician with a minimum of 240 hours experience. The program is approximately 11 months. Classes meet weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Three letters of recommendation are required. The Emergency Medical Technician class is 11 credit hours (250 clock-hours). Classes begin in August and run Monday–Thursday from 5-10 p.m. Both programs are limited-enrollment and competency-based. A high school diploma or GED is required with minimum test scores: Reading/ACT (19), CPT (83), or PERT (10). Applicants must be 18 and certified in CPR for Healthcare Provider by American Heart Association. Clinical assignments are required. Applicants must complete a background check conducted through ollege (fingerprinting and drug screening) and submit to Medical History/Physical Exam/Immunization requirements. The Chipola Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences will offer three new courses in the Fall 2015 semester. African American History I (AMH 2091 001) an introductory course designed to acquaint students with, and stimulate interest in, the culture and history of the African-American. Emphasis is on the origins, struggles, fears, aspirations, and achievements of African-Americans. Industrial Psychology (INP 2390 001) is designed to help students understand human relations, getting along with other people, and succeeding in the world of work. Psychology of Personality (PPE 2001) will provide students with a review and critical evaluation of the major personality theories within the field of psychology. Chipola will host a free screening of Elam Stoltzfus’ latest documentary film “Coastal Dune Lakes: Jewels of Florida’s Emerald Coast,” Thursday, June 18, at 6 p.m., in the Center for the Arts. For information about the film, visit www.chipola.edu or call 718-2257.

Elliot named NJCAA Softball All-American Chipola sophomore pitcher Jessica Elliot has been named to the 2015 NJCAA Softball All-America First Team. Elliott led the Lady Indians to the NJCAA National Championship where she was named MVP of the tournament. After pitching a complete game in the national championship game, Elliot was named Tournament MVP and Outstanding Pitcher. She finished the season with a 21-5 record and 2 saves. She has signed with the University of South Carolina. Selections were made by each respective division’s sport committee via conference call. Nominations and region ranking of student-athletes were submitted by each region’s respective women’s director.

CLASSES NOW FORMING

The Chipola Criminal Justice Training Center will offer an evening Law Enforcement Academy and a Corrections to Law Enforcement Cross-over class beginning July 13th, 2015. Classes will meet weeknights from 5:30 – 9:30 P.M. Completion of either of these programs will prepare candidates to take the State Board Examination, and become certified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, upon becoming employed with a law enforcement agency. Prior to admission, all candidates must earn a passing score on the Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) offered at every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. The deadline for all applications will be July 7th. Natural Sciences. Dr. Cleveland has worked at Chipola for

more than 32 years.

Chipola students compete in Skills-USA state contest Chipola students enrolled in Career and Technical Education programs recently participated in Florida’s state-level SkillsUSA competition in Lakeland. Chipola Welding student James Ledbetter won First Place in Welding Sculpture. Ledbetter will advance to the SkillsUSA National Competition, June 22-26, in Louisville, KY. Chipola Cosmetology graduate Roneika Williams, won third place in Nail Care. Graduate Connor Ward also participated in the Cosmetology event. Automotive student Mark Richards finished in the top 10 among 30 competitors in the Automotive Competition. The students were accompanied to the competition by Chase Vlieg, Automotive Instructor; Paige Vanderwerf, Cosmetology Instructor; and Curtis Jenkins, Welding Instructor. The Chipola students advanced to state after winning the following awards at the the regional competition in March: James Ledbetter, first in Welding Sculpture; Dylan Kirk, third in Welding; Connor Ward, first in Cosmetology; Roneika Williams, first in Nail Care; and Mark Richards, third in Automotive. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working to ensure America has a skilled workforce. Contests begin locally and continue through state and nationals. The organization serves college and high school students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations. SWIMMING LESSONS SET AT CHIPOLA Chipola will offer Children’s Swimming lessons for ages four and up on the following dates: Session 1: June 8-18 with a registration deadline of June 5; Session 2: July 6-16, with a registration deadline of July 2; Session 3: July 27-Aug. 6, with a registration deadline of July 24. Classes are available at 10 a.m. or 7 p.m. Sessions include eight 45-minute classes which meet Monday through Thursday for two weeks. Lessons are based on a combination of nationally-recognized methods. Cost of each two-week session is $55. Pre-registration is required, with a $5 late registration fee.
