"My goal is to write not only a general history of theinstitution, but also some special profiles of someimportant alumni, faculty members, staff members, andsupporters. There will be brief profiles interspersed
throughout the book. These "Profiles in Viking Pride", Ihope, will inspire young people and will touch the hearts ofthose who love ECSU."

S T A N D - O U T V I K I N G S Marrow completes fellowship in
Germany
Keith Marrow has a differentperspective on the role ofcollege than he had as afreshman.
Like most freshmen, he notedthe classes he would have tocomplete in order to earn hisbachelor's degree in AviationScience from Elizabeth CityState University. He later also made room in his schedulefor extracurricular activities, including membership inAlpha Phi Alpha fraternity. One day while scanning abulletin board on campus, he saw an advertisement for theCongress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for YoungProfessionals. This fellowship, funded by the GermanBundestag and U.S. Congress, annually provides 75American and 75 German young professionals theopportunity to spend one year in the other's country, studying, working and living with hosts in a culturalimmersion program.
Marrow was accepted and served as what the agencydescribes as a Junior Ambassador. It was his first tripabroad for an extended period. It was also the turning pointof his view of college as simply a slate of coursescompleted on a small, northeastern North Carolinacampus.
