The Board believes that we can accommodate both the necessary business as well as have an interesting program. In that vein, our own MGEN Neal Creighton has just returned from a trip to Cuba. General Creighton was a member of an of- ficial US delegation and his perspectives are not only current, but framed in the context of an earlier visit he made in 1998 which included an interview with Fidel Castro. Please be sure to attend this lunch and learn more about our neighbors to the South! Let's all thank LTC Bill Stackhouse for his tireless efforts in getting us into position to use the internet effectively. Bill's work has culminated in the NN- MOM having its own web site. While this remains a work in progress, take a moment and log on to www. NNMOAA.org and I believe you will be impressed by the results. We welcome your inputs on this proj- ect as we move forward. For those of you not using the internet please be assured that we will continue our traditional methods of communicating. One of the difficult tasks facing any organiza- tion is keeping an active membership. Our bylaws provide that members whose dues are in arrears be dropped from the membershi p roster. This is some- I thing that we don't want to do, but we are faced with that alternative. In this newsletter is a list of those members who have not paid their due. We will make every effort to contact each of those members, but the reality is that the cost of maintaining a no paying member places a burden on the chapter. If you are one of those mentioned, please include your dues payment with your reservation to the September luncheon. Finally, although it's only August, plans are un- derway for our annual Dining Out to be held at Indian Creek Yacht Club on 7 November 2009. More details will follow, but suffice it to say that the evening will be filled with entertainment and an excellent meal. Continue to enjoy the summer season and I hope to see you at the luncheon on 8 September, 1130 at RW-C. Bring a prospective member!

--------------- NAVIGATOR

Vol. 09 NO.9 Official Newsletter of the Northern Neck Chapter of The Military Officers Association SEPT. 2009

'From the President By BGEN Frank K. Martin, USAF

As we move through the summer months, your

Board has been at work preparing for the fall activi

ties and functions. As you are aware, each year we

present a slate of candidates for positions on your

chapter board. Special thanks to MGEN Jim Hard

ing and his committee who have completed this

task. Details are elsewhere in this newsletter. As

you know, the September luncheon is our annual

business meeting. The Board believes that we can

accommodate both the necessary business as well as

have an interesting program. In that vein, our own

MGEN Neal Creighton has just returned from a trip

to Cuba. General Creighton was a member of an of

ficial US delegation and his perspectives are not only

current, but framed in the context of an earlier visit

he made in 1998 which included an interview with

Fidel Castro. Please be sure to attend this lunch and

learn more about our neighbors to the South!

As we've mentioned before, the chapter has been

working to find ways to better communicate with the

membership while keeping a control on expenses.

Let's all thank LTC Bill Stackhouse for his tireless

efforts in getting us into position to use the internet

effectively. Bill's work has culminated in the NN

MOM having its own web site. While this remains a

work in progress, take a moment and log on to www.

NNMOAA.org and I believe you will be impressed

by the results. We welcome your inputs on this proj

ect as we move forward. For those of you not using

the internet please be assured that we will continue

our traditional methods of communicating.

One of the difficult tasks facing any organiza

tion is keeping an active membership. Our bylaws

provide that members whose dues are in arrears be

dropped from the membershi p roster. This is some-

I thing that we don't want to do, but we are faced with

that alternative. In this newsletter is a list of those

members who have not paid their due. We will make

every effort to contact each of those members, but

the reality is that the cost of maintaining a no paying

member places a burden on the chapter. If you are

one of those mentioned, please include your dues

payment with your reservation to the September

luncheon.

Finally, although it's only August, plans are un

derway for our annual Dining Out to be held at Indian

Creek Yacht Club on 7 November 2009. More details

will follow, but suffice it to say that the evening will

be filled with entertainment and an excellent meal.

Continue to enjoy the summer season and I hope

to see you at the luncheon on 8 September, 1130 at

RW-C. Bring a prospective member!

Major General Neil Creighton to Speak on Cuba

As BGen Martin mentioned in his opening article we are fortunate to have MGen Creighton to speak at the Annual Business Meeting on his recent July visit to Cuba as part of a US delegation. MGen Creighton is a West Point Graduate and spent 31 years in the service. He commanded at all levels from platoon to the 1st Infantry Division. In addition to his command time, Gen Creighton spent a considerable part of his career dealing with Latin American issues. This is a great time to bring a friend or prospective member.
