Use something you do regularly throughout the day as the prompt to remember such as each time you get a drink or sit down or pick up your phone. Pray Continually! 3. The Inside

“Like newborn infants crave pure spiritual milk so that by it you may grow up in your salvation now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.” 1 Peter 2:2-3

So, how’s your growth coming along?

Toward that end I have started, and will continue throughout the year to offer growth challenges to encourage us all to better engage with our faith, enhance our spiritual practices, and help us grow our faith. Some you may already be familiar with, such as establishing a daily quiet time, others you may not be such as our Count Your Blessings board. And still others may be new takes on old practices like setting up a thank you or prayer list on Google or Alexa or Siri that can be accessed by voice while you are driving and read back to you while on the go. All are offered up as ideas and suggestions to help. Some you may find useful, others not so much. Some may come easy, others hard. If you are already practicing some, try others and don’t avoid any simply because they may be difficult. Those may be the very ones that will help you grow most. So far, these challenges are:

1. Take a few minutes to remember ways God has blessed you (your spouse and children, health, education, particular talent, the beauty of the Koolau’s, it can be many things. Then place a mark for each one on our blessings board and see if, over time it does not feed our joy. Be joyful always!

2. Develop the habit of remembering God throughout the day by making it a point to offer up a quick prayer each hour (something as simple as thank you Jesus for being here). Use something you do regularly throughout the day as the prompt to remember such as each time you get a drink or sit down or pick up your phone. Pray Continually!

3. Start a thank you list of all the things you are grateful for. Add to it and review it during your daily quiet time as a reminder and means to Be Thankful in All Circumstances.

4. Memorize our monthly verse. January was 1 Peter 2:2-3 already quoted above. February was 1 Thess. 5:16-18, “Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances for this is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus.” March’s verse is 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” April’s verse will be Mark 5:19 which says, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”

Through the New testament in 2020

March

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17, NIV)

6. Choose one or two of the following to add to your prayer life and help it grow: Start practicing a daily quiet time by setting aside 10 minutes to read from the Bible and pray every day; If you have a daily quiet time, increase it by 5 minutes a day; Develop and maintain a prayer list to help you remember what and who to pray for; Begin a prayer journal to keep track of requests and the answers to prayer; begin praying for local and world events; Take a prayer retreat; Learn about prayer by reading books on prayer such as Andrew Murrays classic With Christ in the School of Prayer or Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest or Brother Lawrence Practicing the Presence of God; and Learn to practice what Frank Laubach called Flash Prayers or swishing prayers, saying a quick prayer for each person you interact with.

These are ideas (more to follow), but the main point is to try something and don’t get stuck in a rut of merely doing the same

things over and over again expecting it to have a different impact on your spiritual growth. Remember the popular definition of

madness is to do the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

The wonderful time of Spring is upon us. Here in Hawaii, the change in seasons is not drastic, but one of the obvious changes this time of year on the mainland is the appearance of new life that Spring brings. Vegetation that has been dormant springs to life. Animals that have been in hibernation will start emerging from their dens. Cattle will start calving. New life is all around and obvious for all to witness and celebrate.

The greatest and most important celebration of new life is celebrated and remembered every Easter. Jesus conquered death and emerged from the tomb resurrected in order that we can have new life in him. I hope that you will take advantage of the numerous opportunities to invite people to join you in church this Easter season. The Easter cantata is on Palm Sunday the week before Easter and the message in the music is excellent. We will have the sunrise Easter service, fellowship and breakfast, Bible Study, the egg hunt for the small children, and our Easter worship service. I encourage you to reach out and invite friends, family, and neighbors who may be more open to attending a church service during this holiday season.

The new life that emerges in Spring is an excellent reminder to us about important spiritual truths that can be happening throughout the year. Our pastor has been challenging us as a church body to grow spiritually through a variety of spiritual growth practices. These spiritual practices are ways through which our minds can be renewed as we continue to grow into the likeness of Christ. Engaging God’s Word through reading it and studying it in our individual lives and group settings, like our Sunday morning and other Bible study opportunities, allows God’s Spirit to teach, rebuke, correct, and train us in righteous living so that we can be equipped and prepared for the work that God wants to do in and through us. Growing in our prayer lives is another way we can be renewed every day. I hope that we will embrace these and the other growth challenges that are being emphasized in our church throughout this year.

Grace and Peace, Brent and Erin

The Marine Corps is still looking for a few good men. I’m looking or a few good Baptist men.

Background: A few years ago, most Baptist churches had a group called, Baptist men. Pali View too, had a group that met at the church on the first Saturday of the month. I would like to start the group again. What will we do besides drink coffee? Well, we had a short topical bible study. The bible study would be led by a different person each meeting. After the bible study, we would have a group discussion on the material that was presented, ask questions, etc. (No Politics). Further, we could have a roundtable discussion about our church or other topics of a spiritual nature. No time limit placed on the meeting, but consideration will always be given to other’s needs.

Soon, I will be putting a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board for those tat would like to be involved.

Are you a Baptist man? Together we are Baptist men.

God Bless, Ollie Tucker

Time for change. As we all know the need to protect our personal information has never been more important than it is

right now. Especially with identity theft being a fast-growing problem in America. One change Pali View ill be making is

in an effort to help protect your personal information is that we will no longer publish birthdays in our newsletters or

church directory. However, as part of the church ministry we will continue to send out a birthday card when your

birthday rolls around.

Here is to hoping this is better late than never! On Grandparents Day, September 9, 2019, the women’s

ministry honored our Kupuna. We had made to order omelets, tea service, fruit and various pastries.

Our honored guests relaxed and were served by our youth. Bingo prizes were provided by gently used

donations and everyone had a fun time. Hana hou!

Looking forward, the team welcomes Tammy Honzaki and Joanna Sagami. We have something in the

works, so look for an announcement. Give us your ideas for 2020!

We had a fairly good turn-out for our first family movie night on Friday, January 25, 2020 which premiered Toy Story

4. Some families were able to come early and the keiki staked out their place on the floor. Then they ate their dinner

and played on the playground until it was time to watch the movie.

Thank you to those who were able to come out and volunteer their time for the first work day of the year on Saturday, Jan 25th. We did some landscaping, repaired ceiling tiles in chapel, repaired fence gates front and back, and attempted to clean the cross. We pray God allows you time to come to the next workday on March 28, 2020 we can use the manpower as we try to clean the cross again.

There is a hymn that goes like this; "I come to the garden alone,

while the dew is still on the roses and the voice I hear falling on my

ear, the Son of God discloses. And He walks with me and He talks

with me and He tells me I am His own; and the joy we share as we

tarry there none other has ever known." This intimate picture of

meeting with God in the garden at the break of day is so beautiful

and reminds me of all the Easter mornings as we have gathered at

the Christ statue in Hawaiian Memorial Cemetery.

Join us this year at 6:30 am and take part in the quiet, peaceful

beauty of early morning prayer and praise as we welcome the

Resurrection Sunrise of our Lord. You will be blessed to share these

moments with your church family and friends.

Worship with us at Hawaiian Memorial Park (weather permitting). In

the event of rain, services will be held across the street at Pali View.

We encourage you to join us for Easter breakfast following service.

Worship for Easter

I hope your worship experience moves beyond the

walls of Pali View and that you are singing the praises

of our Lord and Savior all day every day. Do you know

people who only go to church on Easter and

Christmas? Some folks actually do this, and so Easter

is a special opportunity to share the love of God

through our worship time together.

We are preparing an Easter musical called "Is He

Worthy" to present in church on the Sunday, April 5,

2020, the week before Easter so invite your

neighbors and friends to join us on this special

Sunday.
