Our regular volunteers joined our residents for dinner during volunteer appreciation week.
Thank you to all of our volunteers!
Teri’s Corner…
Spring has arrived! The warmer temperatures have us looking forward to
being outside. We have already been taking residents outside for walks.
Pease remember, when you take your loved one out of our community, let
us know when you will be returning. We can make sure to send any
medications with you that may be needed while out.
Green Acres of Lowell has a Facebook page. The easiest way to find it is to search for
Green Acres of Lowell. Please “Like” our page.
I am looking forward to celebrating Mother’s Day and Father’s Day in the upcoming
months. Please mark your calendars.
See you soon!

Our May resident spotlight is on Constance “Connie” VanHouten. It’s
fitting that the spotlight is on her in May - she will be celebrating a
birthday toward the end of this month! Connie and her sisters were raised
in Edmore, Michigan. She has two nieces, one nephew, two great nieces and
four great nephews. Some of Connie’s fondest memories are spending
summers at their cottage on Derby Lake. Her first job was as a clerk at
Miller’s Dry Goods store. After graduating from Central Michigan University with her Bachelor degree
in Education, Connie became a teacher and taught physical education, health and recreation. She also
coached basketball, softball, volleyball and swimming. She has traveled all over the globe to places like
Israel, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France and Switzerland. After retiring from teaching in
2002, she took up wood carving, gardening, golf, fishing and sailing her 23 foot O’Day sailboat on Lake
Michigan. Connie enjoys animal visits (especially dogs), bingo, pottery, outings, music, and church. We
love having you as part of the Green Acres family!
RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT
Kitchen Korner . . .
Happy Spring! We’ve recently started a food committee group involving residents and staff. We have had positive feedback from our new menus and residents are sharing their own family recipes for us to serve. In May we are starting to celebrate residents birthdays in a special way on the day of their birthday. We also plan on grilling out more now that the weather is getting nicer. As you can see from the picture, it was very windy and cold on our first try but our residents loved it. We are looking forward to our upcoming events of Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and our summer picnic.

The Lowell Legend
Our May staff spot-
light is on Cathi Poll.
She has been a cook
with Green Acres for
almost two years.
Cathi is married, has
two girls and her “fur”
babies. When she’s
not working, Cathi
loves to do crafts,
read and spend time
with her family.
She also enjoys Shipt shopping part time
at Meijers. Cathi says that she thoroughly
enjoys cooking for the residents. She also
loves to visit with them and help them
when she can. For Cathi, the residents
bring joy to her life and she is blessed
with the beautiful gratification of being
here.
We would like to wish Happy Birthday
to the following residents and staff:
April Birthdays
Residents: Gary S., Phyllis H. and
Wayne P.
Staff: Amara E.
May Birthdays
Residents: Joan Z, Greta P.
and Connie V.
Staff: Mark R., Wendy C.,
