ANNOUNCEMENTS & UPCOMING PROGRAMS
The Immigration and Sanctuary Project of Beth Shalom, a project of the Social Action Committee has formed a Google Group to keep members, friends, and
allies informed of educational opportunities and action
items related to this project. The next meeing of this group: Wednesday, 6/28 from 7:30pm at CBS with Guest Speaker Michael Ramos: “For Such a Time as This: Faith and Solidarity with Immigrants and Refugees” Michael Ramos serves as Executive Director of the Church Council of Greater Seattle. The Church Council
collaborates with partners from all faiths throughout King and South Snohomish Counties to address homelessness and low-income housing, work for economic justice and uphold and affirm the rights and dignity of all immigrants.
Most recently, he has helped convene congregations for rapid response and the creation of just immigration
policies in the spirit of the Sanctuary Movement of which he took part in the 1980s in Seattle.
We are looking for new people to join Shabbas Chefs There are different ways to be involved. You can be a Captain which means you’d plan the menu and prepare the meal before Shabbat and/or a Shabbas Chefs server on Shabbat. If you’ve thought about it in the past but haven’t joined us, there’s no time like now! Meet new
people and get more involved in our community. Contact Wendy Friedman at [email protected] for more in-formation.
Spanish and French Books The CBS immigrant support group is collecting items wanted by detainees at the Tacoma Detention Center. In the absence of any planned activities at the Center, they would welcome light reading matter (books, magazines, newspapers) in Spanish, and especially French because of
an influx of Haitians. Toiletries are also welcome —
shampoo, bars of soap, laundry detergent, sanitary napkins, etc.—which are expensive for them to buy at the Center. Please look for the donation box in the CBS lobby. Thank you. The box will be here until the end of June.
The Seattle Limbe Sewing Circle at Beth Shalom This Tuesday, 7/18 from 6:00-9:00 pm in the Social
Hall - Light dinner provided Help Girls Stay in School! We are a multi-cultural, multi-faith community with a two-part goal: to create feminine hygiene kits (using a Days For Girls template) for girls in Cameroon, Africa and to build cross-cultural community here in Seattle. Any questions, email the Beth Shalom office and we'll put
you in touch with Rabbi Elana Zaiman, our project organizer .
Is Anyone Missing A Diabetes Kit? It is a zipped up kit for testing blood. It’s in the office, without a name, and it must be missed by someone. Please call us at 206-524-0075.
Stitch and … Schmooze will be on hiatus for the
Summer. We will start again in September.
Daven with Rabbi Adam Rubin for the last time This Monday Morning Minyan at 7:00am Join your fellow Beth Shalom Morning Minyanaires as we
honor Rabbi Adam Rubin by calling him to the Torah on
Monday morning, June 26th, with a breakfast oneg to fol-low. Minyan starts at 7:00am in the Beit Midrash and to honor the Rabbi, let’s try to start strong and be on time. Rabbi Rubin has been a great supporter of the Minyan and has helped guide and train many of our congregants and leaders involved in the Minyan over the past few years. In addition, we will also be presenting Rabbi Rubin with a
practice Hagbah Torah as a gift for him to share with his new congregation. If you are interested in participating in the gift or supporting the oneg, please contact Alan Rodan or Daniel Markowitz. We look forward to davening together with Rabbi Rubin for the last time here at CBS. Please come, daven and enjoy!
