TNRD bio-controlprogram
The Thompson-Nicola Regional Dis-trict is partnering with Agrowest Con-sulting to continue to offer its freeBio-Control Program, which helps pri-vate landowners control weeds.
For more than 20 years, TNRD hasbeen releasing bio-control insects forknapweed, hound’s-tongue, dalmatiantoadflax, leafy spurge, and Canada thistleon private land. The bio-control insectsare “host specific” and will not attack na-tive vegetation or even other weedyspecies. The insects target different partsof an invasive plant — mining the roots,mining the stems, eating the seeds, or de-foliating the leaves. Bio-control is a long-term commitment and therefore idealrelease sites are large infestations of a sin-gle species on uncropped (range) land.

Canada in a DayCTV announced Monday that it has
commissioned a 2-hour event broadcastof crowd-sourced photography fromVancouver-based Screen Siren Pictures,to premiere in 2017 in celebration ofCanada’s 150th anniversary. Based on thehighly successful Life in a Day series offilms, Canada In A Day will allow viewersto experience a day in the life of Canada,comprised entirely of footage shot byCanadians across the nation on a singleday later this year.
Participating Canadians will be askedto shoot and submit video in any lan-guage that captures a moment in theirlife, on that day — TBA. From these sto-ries, viewers will learn what it means tobe Canadian via a video snapshot of whowe are as a nation.
