– Between INRIA, UIUC and ANL– Established in the context of Blue Waters– 2 co-executive directors: Marc Snir

and Franck Cappello– 3 types of activities: workshops, visits, missions

+ Collaborations: FR, EU, America, ASIA– Productions: Publications and Software

– Will last until end of 2013. Working on an extension – JLESC - to other partnersFirst new partner: AICS (K computer)

• Programming and runtime (parallel languages, runtime, multi-threading, process mapping, scheduling, communication libraries, etc.)

• Resilience (FT-protocols, event log analysis, multi-level checkpointing, resilience performance modeling, energy consumption, etc. );

• System software (monitoring, resource-job manager, I/O & file systems, visualization, etc.).

Allocation requestsAllocation requests

• Blue Waters is now in production mode.

• As members of the joint-lab, you may obtain an allocations to run experiments on Blue Waters.

• If you need an allocation, please mention in your talk what research you want to explore and some elements about #CPU hours, size of experiments, etc.

• You can also talk to B. Kramer, B. Gropp, R. Pennington

About your talkAbout your talk• Due to the air traffic controllers strike and the

train operators strike, we expect that some speakers will not be able to present their talk at the originally planned time.

• Please be flexible and ready to talk

We will adapt the schedule dynamically according the speaker availability.

• Check the schedule frequently to check when you are scheduled to talk.

Mini-workshopsMini-workshopsMini-workshopsMini-workshops

Smaller groups and focus on specific topic

More like a brainstorming meeting. Try to identify some 2-3 research issues of common interest.

Define how the collaboration will be implemented in the next 6 months. Student visit is the most efficient way.

The research results will be presented at the next workshop

Visits could be to UIUC, ANL or France (any INRIA locations)The Joint-lab will support visits.

This is the perfect time to define topic of internships

Workshop Logistics 1/3

• Monday plenary session in Amphitheatre (lunch 12:15)• Thursday: Amphitheatre and meeting room • Friday // sessions in 2 meeting rooms.• We reconvene Friday before lunch for report and closing

• For any question, please ask at the reception, Christian or Evelyne

Workshop Logistics 2/3• All lunches will take place in this room

– Lunch boxes on Wednesday

• Breaks will take place in the atrium• Diners (Wednesday and Thursday) will take place in

different restaurants• Buses will bring us to restaurants

Workshop Logistics 3/3

• Presentation: Use your laptop

• We collect ALL presentations• Presentations will be stored on the join-lab

web site, unless you refuse it.• Please put you presentation on the USB key,

in pdf format, right after your talk.

Closing the 9th Workshop of the INRIA-Illinois-ANL Joint Laboratory

On PetaScale ComputingJune 2013,

Lyon, France

• We hope that you had a productive

workshop

• We hope that you identified new potential

collaborations

• Please plan visit long time in advance:

Do not wait until few weeks before the next workshop ;-)

• Thank you for your active participation

• The joint lab will last in the current configuration until end of 2013. Will become from 2014 the Joint Laboratory on Extreme Scale Computing First new partner: AICS (K computer)
