� Turnover Turnover Turnover Turnover of the ICT sector comprises value of salessalessalessales of all establishments engaged in activities classified in the ICT sector during the period covered.

� Gross output Gross output Gross output Gross output includes the value of goods and services produced by establishments engaged manufacturing and services activities in the ICT sector and gross margins of establishments engaged in wholesale and retail trade (gross output is equal to margins, i.e. sales less cost of goods sold).

� Value added Value added Value added Value added of the ICT sector is equal to total gross output less the value of goods and services used up in production.

� Industry classification Industry classification Industry classification Industry classification used by SM is a 5-digit national classification (NSIC) which at 4-digit level is same as ISIC.

Computation of the indicators

(a)Turnover and value added of the ICT sector are obtained from National Accounts.

(b) Imports and exports of goods are available from trade statistics

(c) Imports and exports of services are provided by the Bank of Mauritius (BOP)

(d) Derived indicators 11 – 18 are worked out from items 2 -10 and 19 of the table.

More explanations in next slides

� Data to compile production account by lowest possible level are collected from the census of economic activities which is carried out every five years, the latest one was conducted for year 2007.

� For years between two censuses, data sources are:

◦ A sample survey on receipts and expenditure, carried among large establishments - All sectors

◦ Value Added Tax (VAT) data and Income Tax data from the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) – All sectors

◦ Value of imported goods from trade statistics (Wholesale and retail trade of imported goods)

� Estimates for large establishments by industry group are worked out on the basis of data obtained. Estimates for small establishments are based on trends observed among large establishments.

� Data Data Data Data on investment for the sector are not ready for publication. Main problem is to identify capital projects, machinery and equipment that should be in the ICT sector.

�Data are being collected from different sources:
