Free write for your Narrative Poem
Step 1-
Take us to a recurring event or ritual in your life.
• Ex. Saturday afternoons growing up=Dad’s exercise boot camp followed by French toast.
Step 2
Describe the time of day, year, weather, place, and any other details that describe the setting for which this event took place.
Step 3
Identify the main character(s) of this event. Ex. Younger sister, Dad, and me
Describe these character’s appearances.
Step 4
• Describe the relationships among the people involved.
Step 5
Describe the actions of the characters involved.
• jumping jacks, sit-ups, toe-touches, younger sister on my dad’s back as he did push ups, and I’d laugh.
Step 6
Write any dialogue that was exchanged.• “1,2. 1,2.” “Monkey airplane soldier.” “Mr.
Bear wants to know why you don’t eat me?”

Describe the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and even touch if possible.
