Rate of play: 40 moves in 100 minutes, followed by all remaining moves in 50 minutes, with the addition of 30 seconds foreach move from the start.

Non-English entrants are required tohave a FIDE identification number. Ifthey do not, they must obtain one inadvance from their International RatingOfficer.

Thanks to the John Robinson Trust, limited assistance may be available forsuitable players under 21 on 28 December2017. Details will appear on the website.

The Masters winner will hold theGolombek Trophy in name for one year.Prizes: £2000, £1200, £750, £500, £350,£250, £200.

There will also be prizes of £200 each for:

• The highest placed female player

• The highest placed player who is neither a GM nor IM

• Best relative FIDE rating performance by a player aged 65 or over on 28 December 2017.

• The CON POWER Prize for the Best relative FIDE rating performance by a player aged under 18. on 28 December 2017.

Tradewise Insurance will award prizesfor those, not already holding 3 norms,achieving GM/WGM or IM/WIM FIDEtitle norms which will be valid towardstitles. GM/WGM norms £200 andIM/WIM norms £100.

Horntye will present a prize of £100 anda trophy for the “Winner of Best Game”.

Congress Director, Alan Hustwayte, willpresent a prize for best performanceagainst rating.

The highest placed eligible player notalready qualified will be entitled to playin the 2018 British Championship.

Players, other than grandmasters, may takea half point bye in any round of the Mastersapart from the last. Notice must be givenearly on the previous evening. This is par-ticularly suitable on New Year’s Day.

GM Chris Ward will provide commen-taries on the games in progress startingat 14.45 each afternoon.

CONGRESS CONDITIONSCheques should be made payable to“Hastings International Chess Congress”.Entries should be sent to the CongressDirector (address given below). If a writtenacknowledgement of an entry is required astamped addressed envelope must beenclosed.

The Congress reserves the right to refuse anyentry. Except in such cases, a deduction of20% will normally be made from any refundof entry fee. Refunds will be made only ifnotification of withdrawal is received by theDirector no later than 22 December 2017.

Late entries will invoke a late entry fee of£10 to the Masters and £6 to other tourna-ments for entries postmarked after 10 December 2017 (or 23 December 2017for the Weekend Tournaments).

Eligibility to play in an event will be deter-mined by the Grading and Rating lists as of1 December 2017. The actual grade or ratingused for all other purposes will be the mostup-to-date value available on the first day ofeach event.

Information for overseas playersIt is better to fly to Gatwick as there is adirect rail link to Hastings. Those arriving atHeathrow or Stansted airports should travelto Charing Cross Station and those comingfrom Luton airport should travel viaSt.Pancras International and then to Hastingsvia Ashford high speed service. Players fromLondon should travel on the direct trainsfrom Charing Cross, Waterloo East orLondon Bridge stations.National Express Coaches also have dailyservice between London and Hastings.Further information:- www.national express.com.

Overseas players are also advised that theyshould expect to pay a minimum of £40 perperson per night for bed and breakfastaccommodation in Hastings.

Electronic devices such as mobile phonesmust be completely switched off andplaced in a bag under player’s table. Thebag must not be moved at any time duringthe game.

Default time: Players arriving 30 minutesor more after the start of a session in anytournament shall lose by forfeit, unless thearbiter decides otherwise.

Refreshments while at the board:Players must confine their refreshments totea, coffee and cold drinks.

The Maureen Charlesworth Trophy will beawarded for the most meritorious perform-ance by a local player. Further details willappear in the programme.

It is just over 1kmfrom the town centre and is shown on themap in this brochure. Bus services runfrom the town centre to the venue. There isadequate car-parking space.

The Playing venue is accessible to playerswith disabilities including toilet facilitiesfor the disabled and a lift between floors.

Catering will be available during most ofthe playing times.
