“If you want to invent, you have to experiment and pioneer, and you won’t usually know if something will work unless you try it. I encourage you to try it, and I’ll be cheering for you as you go on to do big things.” JEFF BEZOS, CEO, AMAZONPERSONAL LETTER TO FIRST SSE COHORT, 2017

We are a school that teaches entrepreneurship as a mindset, as a way of viewing the world.

We seek out student entrepreneurs from different backgrounds, disciplines and locations who possess the traits we actively screen for; raw talent, drive, a curious intellect and an entrepreneurial spirit.

We connect these students with entrepreneurs, academics, industry experts, policymakers and mentors.

We give them instant access to a powerful network of leaders in the entrepreneurial space that would take years to build independently.

We send them back out into the world with the skills, confidence and connections they need to innovate, thrive and succeed in their entrepreneurial journey.

Sydney School of Entrepreneurship. An unprecedented collaboration between all 11 NSW universities and TAFE NSW.

Creating entrepreneurs and jobs of the future.

Page 4: 9 ways to learn - SSE · Development Rapid evolution for entrepreneurship educators. For academic faculty and staff of our member institutions. On campus. Global Series International

At the core of SSE is the notion of collaboration Established in 2016 with cornerstone investment from the NSW State Government, SSE was established to develop Australian entrepreneurs and jobs of the future.

The vision was for a new school that would attract bright, energetic and creative student entrepreneurs, and the best local, national and international academics, thought leaders, industry partners and practitioners working in the entrepreneurial space.

Driving the collaboration is the recognition that collectively SSE can provide a larger common stage for student entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs and academics to learn, connect and thrive – more than any one member institution could achieve alone.

A proven model for entrepreneurial education SSE is modelled on Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship, where 15,000 students have graduated since inception in 1998. 40 per cent of graduates have gone on to launch their own startups, including high-profile ‘unicorns’ (startups valued at $US 1 billion) such as SoundCloud.

Stockholm is now the second most prolific tech hub after Silicon Valley.

After a decade at the helm of Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship, Nick Kaye returned to Australia to head up SSE. Nick Kaye is recognised globally for leading collaborations between tertiary institutions to advance entrepreneurial education and training.

Our Campus In August 2017, SSE opened a brand new state of the art campus in the inner Sydney suburb of Ultimo, Australia’s highest density startup precinct and connected public transport hub.

In the heart of Sydney’s new innovation precinct and burgeoning higher education corridor, our neighbours are a host of universities, TAFE NSW, incubators and accelerators, co-working spaces, and digital and creative agencies.

This central location facilitates high traffic interactions with student entrepreneurs, tertiary institutions, startups, industry partners and global visitors.

Through its member network, SSE has access to a student body of 700,000 undergraduates.

Entrepreneurs of the future come from all walks of life.

Our skill lies in identifying those students with an entrepreneurial spirit, whose talent and skills are raw or in need of fine-tuning. We provide an unrivalled education experience that is experiential and immersive, based on a principle of personal rather than universal.

SSE Alumni Testimonial“I’m passionate about delivering economic outcomes for Aboriginal communities, and the course has given me a great opportunity to develop new ideas for my charity the Bawurra Foundation, while also thinking about new projects.” JESSE SLOK CEO BAWURRA(2017 SSE GRADUATE – MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY)

Core UnitOur first core unit offered to student entrepreneurs was facilitated by SSE and three SSE member institutions – University of Technology Sydney, Macquarie University and Charles Sturt University – and taught with University of NSW Sydney.

A blend of online and experiential peer-to-peer learning experiences, delivered over 10 weeks with two action packed intensives.

Student entrepreneurs are given direct access to a powerful network of academics, industry partners, successful startups, graduate student entrepreneurs and other contributors via industry visits, panel discussions and guest lectures.

The intensive starts with a “Massive Ecosystem Scavenger Hunt” where student entrepreneurs solve clues to locate key players in the local startup ecosystem and network with more than 20 industry touchpoints, including big names such as Facebook, Google, Canva, CBA and KPMG.

Student entrepreneurs who complete the unit gain practical skills to help them on their journey towards entrepreneurial success. They understand the startup sector with a rich economic, political and social perspective.

SSE is a gateway between local student entrepreneurs and the world

CentralRegionalInternationalOur member network links Sydney with regional and rural campuses. Our student entrepreneurs benefit from such a diverse mix of ideas and experiences.

To make SSE accessible to students from remote and regional communities, we offer two-way mobility scholarships to subsidise travel and accommodation costs.

We send our visiting global speakers to visit our regional members, and we collaborate with incubators and partners based outside of Sydney.

SSE International Bootcamps to countries including China, India, USA and Sweden give emerging entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn, pitch and partner with the best.
