Our school has been identified as a school at increased risk if a bush fire were to break out on a day when a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating is issued for our area. To ensure the health, safety and welfare of students and staff, the NSW Department of Education has determined that on days when a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating is issued for our area, the school will temporarily cease operations for the day(s) the rating is current and alternative learning arrangements will be put in place. This is based on information obtained through a bush fire assessment of our school arranged by the department. A Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating is likely to occur on a very small number of days during the bush fire season, if at all. Students will not be at school as school will be closed and the staff will report to closest opened school. The school will only receive notification of a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating after school hours the day before the forecast is issued. To assist me in contacting all parents please ensure that you have provided the school with up-to-date home or after hours contact details. Notification will be made via Skoolbag, website Facebook and local radio. Information for parents and carers provided by the department about these arrangements is attached. Up to date bush fire information will also be available to you on the department s bush fire safety website. Debating 2019 Wrap Up The 2019 Premiers Debating Challenge is now finished for Brisbania. Our squad, consisting of Sydney, Ruby, Laura, Molly and Keira won 3 out of 4 debates which placed them in the lead along with Avoca Beach PS for our zone. We then had to

compete against Avoca Beach PS in the zone final. The topic for the debate was: Coles Little Shop and Woolworths Ooshies should be banned. As the affirmative team, we argued that for a number of reasons, including

environmental, that they should definitely be banned! Avoca Beach, through excellent rebuttal, secured the win, however, the adjudicator stated the quality of the debate from both sides, was what she would expect to see

from high school students. Over the course of the term, the squad have improved in leaps and bounds which

has been incredible to watch. We could not be prouder of all their efforts!

The P&C will be running a canteen at both the matinee and evening performances of the musical on Thursday. We will be selling tea, coffee, water, soft drinks and snacks at the matinee. In the evening, we will have tea, coffee, water, soft drinks, hotdogs and snacks. All money raised goes towards purchasing resources and upgrading facilities for our school. As there will be nobody at Brisbania on Thursday, the school canteen will be closed. Today is the deadline to return your Musical Raffle tickets to the office. Please do so ASAP so that all tickets can go into the draw for Thursday night. Please return any unsold tickets as well. This is a legal requirement so that we can account for all the tickets. Thanks to Mel Martin for organising the amazing cash prizes for the raffle, and of course to our sponsors Ray White Saratoga, Davistown RSL, Air Forced Air and East Gosford Podiatry, who have so generously supported us in our fundraising efforts. The child/family who has sold the most tickets will also be announced at the evening performance of the musical. Our next meeting is next Tuesday (17 September) at 7pm in the staff room. There are a number of current P&C members (including executive members) who are unable to continue in their current role next year. We need new members to ensure that the P&C remains active and is able to continue to support our school. Have a good week. Suzanne Petrie Sapsford P&C President 0423 036 697
