Dr. Weinstock is the Associate Program Director and Director of Research at the Adena Emergency Medicine Residency and Professor of Emergency Medicine, Adjunct at the Department of Emergency Medicine, Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University. He is the risk management section editor for EM RAP (emergency medicine reviews and perspectives), editor-in-chief for UC RAP (urgent care reviews and perspectives). Michael has practiced medicine nationally and internationally including volunteer work in Papua

New Guinea, Nepal, and the West Indies. He has lectured extensively on medical topics as well as risk management issues. In 2006 he published Bouncebacks! Emergency Department cases: ED returns, in 2011 Bouncebacks! Medical and Legal and in 2015 Bouncebacks! Pediatrics and is currently working on Bouncebacks! Critical Care. In March 2014 he received an award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Emergency Medicine from the University of Maryland Emergency Medicine residency program.

Kennon Heard is Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Section Chief of Medical Pharmacology and Toxicology. He attended medical school at the University of California San Diego. His post-graduate training includes a residency in Emergency Medicine at Denver Health Medical Center, a Medical Toxicology Fellowship at The Rocky Mountain

Poison and Drug Center and a PhD in Clinical Sciences from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American College of Medical Toxicology and the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology. He works and teaches at the University of Colorado Hospital Emergency Department.

Dr. Winters is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He is the Director of the Combined Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine Residency Program, founder and Co-Director of the Combined Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine/Critical Care Program, and Director of Critical Care Education. Dr. Winters has received numerous local, regional, and national teaching awards, including the National Emergency Medicine Faculty Teaching Award from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), the

Young Educators Award from the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and the 2014-2015, Honorable Mention Outstanding Speaker of the Year from ACEP. He has lectured nationally and internationally, authored numerous articles and textbook chapters, and hosts a monthly podcast on the management of critically ill emergency department patients (Critical Care Perspectives in Emergency Medicine, www.ccpem.com). In addition, Dr. Winters is Editor-in-Chief of Emergency Department Resuscitation of the Critically Ill, a popular emergency medicine-critical care textbook published by ACEP.

5:45 – 6:30 Advocacy Matters to Colorado: How to tell the story to get what you need for your Patients - Stephen Anderson, MD, FACEP

Born & Raised in Michigan, attended University of Michigan for undergrad, medical school, and began residency there. Finished training at University of Washington and joined the Emergency Department staff at Auburn General Hospital in south Seattle in the mid 1980’s. Has practiced there going on 30 years as it grew into MultiCare Auburn Medical Center, holding positions including Chairman of Emergency Services, Stroke Care, Trauma Care, Education, and Chief-of-Staff. Devoted self to issues to make our communities healthier, being named the Physician of the Year in Seattle by the American Heart Association, and the Guardian of Emergency Medicine by the WA Chapter of

the American College of Emergency Physicians, among many awards. Over the last few years as President of the WA Chapter of ACEP, fought flawed public policies surrounding restricting access to care for State Medicaid patients, and Mental Health Boarding in ED’s. Co-authored the WA State 7 Best Practices, a program many states now use as a blueprint to increase patient access, coordinate care of high utilizers, save lives and save states Medicaid costs. In 2014 elected to the National Board of Directors of the American College of Emergency Physicians, advancing the practice of it’s 35,000 members. All this, while still practicing at the bedside as a full time Emergency Medicine Physician.

Donald Stader, MD, FACEP

Dr. Stader is an Emergency Physician at Swedish Medical Center. Dr. Stader attended Baylor College of Medicine followed by Emergency Medicine Residency at Carolinas Medical Center. During residency he became involved in national leadership - becoming the President of the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA). Don currently serves on the Board of the Colorado Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (Colorado ACEP) and is Secretary/Treasurer 2017. Dr. Stader is Founder and Chair of the COACEP Opiod Task Force (2016-2017) as well as Editor in Chief of Colorado ACEP’s 2017 Opioid Prescribing & Treatment Guidelines (2017). Dr. Stader is President & Producer of Triage Films, LLC. Executive Producer, 24/7/365: The Evolution of Emergency Medicine. Chair & Editor-in-Chief, ACEP 50th Anniversary Book Project.

Lisa Raville, Executive Director, Harm Reduction Action Center

Lisa Raville grew up outside of Chicago, IL and graduated from DePaul University with a degree in Communications and a minor in Women’s Studies. Lisa has been the Executive Director of the Harm Reduction Action Center since 2009, a public health agency that works with people who inject drugs. Lisa is the Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition. Lisa is the co-chair of the Naloxone workgroup for the Colorado Consortium on Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention. Lisa is on the Honorary Board of the New Leaders Council Denver and is the VP of Membership for a local Toastmasters chapter. In 2014, Lisa won the Colorado Public Health Association Award for Excellence in Policy.
