8DIO Solo Taiko Drum is the most comprehensive set of deep-sampled Taikos onthe market. The library contains a stunning amount of 4,000+ samples of largerTaikos (O-Daiko) down to a wide variety of smaller Taikos (Shimes) and everythingin between. Solo Taiko Drum contains 58 different recordings of Taiko Drums andwas recorded in two microphone perspectives (close and far). The two microphonepositions allows you to sculpt a larger sound and potentially render Taiko in asurround environment too. The Solo Taikos also contain a variety of alternative

articulations like different stick types, taikos played with hands, rimshots andclacks. In addition we also added a bonus sample set of tekkan cannon sounds. Itis common to supplement the Taikos by playing on a metal barrel, which evidentlysymbolizes the barrel of a cannon.

Solo Taiko Drums truly cover the taiko drum family in-depth. The library wasrecorded in the same signature hall used for our Epic Taiko Ensemble and EpicFrame Drums. We highly recommend purchasing both Epic Taiko Ensemble andSolo Taiko Drum, since they use many of the same drums, microphone perspectivesand give you the necessary depth to create completely realistic Taikoperformances. Epic Taiko Ensemble also contains a bonus section of over 3.000

We Use Winrar to compress the“8DIO_epic_taiko_solo.rar” le for easierdownloading. Our 8DIO download and installationmanager will download and install the library for you.

This library is designed for the full retail version ofKontakt 4 and later. This library can also be used in thefree Kontakt Player, available from Native Instruments.

Please note that only certain 8DIO libraries aresupported by this free Kontakt Player. About Taiko Drums:

Taiko ( ?) means "drum" in Japanese

(etymologically "great" or "wide drum").

Outside Japan, the word is often used to refer toany of the various Japanese drums ( , "wa-

daiko", "Japanese drum", in Japanese) and tothe relatively recent art-form of ensemble taikodrumming (sometimes called more specically,"kumi-daiko" ( )).

The performances can last between 5 and 25minutes and typically follow a jo-ha-ky! (beginning, middle, end/rapid, sudden, urgent,and emergency) structure, which means theperformance will speed up signicantly towards

the grand nale. Japanese taiko drums havebeen developed into a wide range of percussioninstruments that are used in both Japanese folkand classical musical traditions.

Taiko, in general, are 3 sticks percussioninstruments. With the exception of the"kotsuzumi" and "ootsuzumi", all taiko are struckwith bachi. They have heads on both sides of thedrum body, and a sealed resonating cavity. Taikoare also characterized by a high amount of

tension on the drums heads, with acorrespondingly high pitch relative to body size.This high tension likely developed in response to

Japan's wet and humid summers when mostfestivals take place. Many taiko are not tunable,and a drum with high head tension wouldcounteract the slacking effects of humidity.

Taiko are categorized into two types ofconstruction. "Byou-uchi daiko" ( ,

tacked-struck drum) taiko have heads nailed tothe body.

"Shime-daiko" ( , tightened drum), have

heads sewn onto iron rings, which are then lacedto each other around the drum body.made from.

The two drum types can roughly be translated asthe bass- and snare drum in a western worldunderstanding.

System Requirements

Please be aware that many instrument and multi-instrument programs in this library are extremely ram/cpu and hard disk-streaming resource intensive. We recommend that you have at least 2GB of systemram, a dual core cpu and at least a 7200 rpm SATA hard disk before purchasing this 8DIO library. Largesample sets like those found in this library may load slowly and may cause system instability on oldermachines.

This library includes a total of 60 instrument programs, so we denitely recommend using the left andright arrow keys located to the right of the instrument name to quickly cycle from one preset to thenext within each folder. (See example above)

The main “Instruments” directory contains sub-folders for each group.

Instrument Program Types

This library features many sub-types of instrument programming to allow greater exibility. The “ Master ”patches are heavy-duty combo programs that include all of the different articulations for the entire ensemble oreach divis group. Please be warned that they each require a signicant amount of ram to load and draw a largenumber of voices if multiple articulations are struck at once.

Most programs feature key tracking. “ Tuned ” pitches the notes over half-step intervals and spans the majorityof the keyboard. They also include special key-switches in the lower range of the keyboard, which allow instantre-tuning of the whole instrument.

Mystery:This setting is just a cool little surprise.

Bypass:You can bypass the reverb at any time by selecting“Bypass ” at the top of the drop-down list again.

Wetness Knob

You can also set the amount of reverb being applied, byusing the “ Wetness ” knob. A value of 0 means thesignal is fully dry. Because of the dynamic nature of theconvolution impulses, turning the knob up more thanhalf-way can often lead to clipping when playing loudnotes. This can be compensated for by lowering the mainoutput level slider for the instrument.

Instruments :Master Patches

The master nki (instrument) programs include all of thelibrary's articulations in a single combined package.Therefore, be very careful loading them. They can require a

large number of voices if multiple articulations are struck atonce and free system memory to load.

If you have less than 3GB of system ram, we advise youNOT to try loading this program. Due to its large samplepool and complex programming, this full-sized program cancause system instability, crashing and potential data loss inmost standard computers. Use the hiRAM Master patchesat your own risk and ONLY if you have a very powerfulmachine! You've been warned.
