Alexi Laiho uses two different tunings in his music. One tuning he uses is “D” tuning and the other is Drop “C” tuning. Below are the tuning notes for each, notice that the only difference be-tween the two is the note on the 6th string. On each page you will see an icon for the tuning used in the example. GlossaryArpeggio: the notes of a chord played individually.
Bi-Dextral Hammer-on: two handed technique where both hands fret notes on the neck. A.K.A. Tapping.
Chord: a group of three or more notes played simultane-ously.
Chromatic: a group of notes that are a half step apart (one fret) played in succession
Flat: a symbol that is used to lower a note or chord one half step (one fret)
Harmonics: chime-like notes played by lightly touching the string above certain frets.
Improvising: creating your own style by expanding on basic ideas.
Key: a group of notes and chords that are related for song writing.
Measure: small sections of written music separated by vertical lines
Melody: single notes played in a row
Modes: scales that are built off of degrees of a scale
Passing Tone: a type of connecting note, not always be-longing to the scale being used.
Rhythm: the speed, length and time in which music is played.
Root Note: the note that represents a scale or chords name (the most important note)
Scale: a group of notes all belonging to the same key
Sharp: symbol used to raise a note or chord one half step (one fret)
Staff: the group of lines on which music is written
