Registration: $60 paid by March 9 or as soon as you can. Fees are nonrefundable. You may attend as many classes as you like in these eight weeks for one registration fee! She will showcase the society’s work of gravestone restoration in Wichita’s Hillside Cemetery. The not-for-profit group locates and repairs damaged tombstones.

March 20: “The Harvey Girls” Dr. Michaeline (Mickey) Chance-Reay,
Professor Emeritus, author and historian The Harvey House chain of restaurants got its start in Topeka when Fred Harvey opened a café for people traveling the Atchison, Topeka, ad Santa Fe Railroad line. Preferring the term “Harvey Girls” to waitress, he recruited single women to work at his restaurants that gradually sprang up all the way to California and Texas. This presentation explores the job duties and working conditions of Harvey girls from 1876 to the early 1950’s. (A Kansas Humanities Council presentation)

Parking is available on the east and south sides of East Heights UMC, on Crestway Street, and in the parking lot of
Second Church of Christ Scientist (east of East Heights). The “no parking” area on the east side of
the church is reserved for people taking young children to preschool. Please do not park in that
area.

You may bring a friend (first-time attendee only) to classes one Tuesday with no fee. Lunch needs to be reserved by noon the Friday prior. Either way, call us so we can
have a name tag ready!

per year (spring & fall) in 8-week sessions.
Our Services: Adventures in Learning, Tuesdays Together, Threadbare Readers Theatre, Greater Wichita Senior Spelling Bee.
Who does the work? Volunteers, along with Emily Schaefer, our Adventures in Learning Coordinator.
