A & H Industries, Inc. was founded July 4th, 1976 for the purpose of serving the tooling needs of industrial woodworking companies. Their corporate goal is to maintain quality standards and customer service in all tooling they manufacture and service. They commit to employee development, upgrading technology, and any other corporate actions needed to achieve this goal of quality and service. The company was started by Bill Achenbach (gained his machine skills in the Navy) and Fred Hoffman (went to Penn State and received his Journeymans Degree) as a custom tooling company with a team of eight employees. Their goal was to build custom cutters, router bits and saws. They rented 1/3 of the building owned by C.J. Wagner on the South side of Railroad Street. They continued to expand and bought the land and building in 1983. In 1984, they manufactured their first PCD (polycrystalline diamond) cutter. Being one of the first in North America with this technology. Today, the availability of PCD tooling is greater than ever with more companies purchasing erosion machinery. Thirtyfive years of PCD tooling manufacturing gives them an advantage in application and design that the customers have come to realize. What is PCD? Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) is a composite cutting tool material produced with a tungsten carbide substrate, enabling it to be brazed to a cutting tool body. Because of the extreme hardness typical of diamond, PCD is an excellent material for machining non-ferrous metals and wood products. The benefits of PCD are the edge life of 30 to 200 times greater than carbide depending upon application. The consistency of profile and surface finish reducing or eliminating sanding. Cost effective long-term tooling solution for high volume or repetitive production. A wear-resistant alternative for machining abrasive materials, solid surface, synthetic or natural woods. On February 17, 1997 Fred bought out Bill’s share of the business and purchased the real estate around the perimeter of the buildings for future expansion. They entered into the world of robotics in 2000 when a CNC saw grinder
was purchased. In 2001 they built an addition to accomadate their expanding services. In 2005 a steel building was added to house the numerous new machines that were added to service the industries growth. 65% of the business are tools for cabinets, doors, stairs and millwork. Commercial work comprises the remainder of the business. On November 25, 2015, the day before Thanksgiving, a major structure fire destroyed the majority of the building and machinery. The most valuble asset, the employees of the company, took the next day to give thanks. The new steel building with the CNC machines survived the fire, but 60% of the building was lost. A professional cleaning company was hired by the insurance company to clean all of the existing equipment of debris. This crew was from Detroit, Michigan and consisted of 27 individuals working six days. On the 13th day, electric was restored. On the 14th day, production started. A trailer was rented to house the engineering department and part of the office staff. Accounts payable and receivable were in the home of an employee for 22 months. October of 2017, A&H Industries opened their new 32,000 square foot manufacturing facility with the latest CNC equipment for saw blade, tooling grinding and erosion. If you are looking for a fresh look for your wardrobe from bygone decades, then the Plaid Soapbox is the place to be! Located in the heart of Antiques Capital USA, Adamstown Pennsylvania, The Plaid Soapbox Opened in 2017, after more than two decades of buying and selling vintage clothing, Owner William Fritz was looking to create a place where people could feel welcomed and able to find unique fashion and cultural inspirations. Growing up in Lancaster County, William was inspired by the culture he found in local and independent music venues in the 1990s and early 2000s, including Cafe Beracah and Javacasa of Lebanon. He recollects, “There was a real interesting mix of spirituality, culture, and diversity that was happening at that time. People were reusing vintage clothing and hand making their own clothing for DIY self expression. Musicians and poets alike were joined by their fans for many nights of ideas, music, and creativity. It was a very unique time full of a variety of people.” It was in these early years that ideas of starting his own business were brewing in his mind. Eventually, he headed to Philadelphia University and graduated with a degree in Textile Design, bringing more inspiration and desire for a vintage based business to inspire other artists and designers. The owner, William Fritz, had worked for years for other retail locations including a bookstore as well as an entertainment mall based retailer in Lebanon. Working for other retailers, William saw that there was a real need for a

shop that included some niche categories that weren’t readily available with other businesses. Based on the belief that we were divinely created to express ourselves individually and artistically William said, “I wanted to create a mix of fashion, music, movies, and literature where people could explore new ideas, cultures, or self expression that maybe wasn’t always the status quo.” The shop is filled with Men’s and Women’s Vintage & Retro clothing from the 1940s to the 1990s with a print, pattern, and texture emphasis. Shoppers can also find an array of music, literature, movies, collectables and home decor throughout the store. “It is important to me that we preserve history by understanding the past, as well as incorporating elements of it in our present time.” This is widely seen in the array of reusable wares from bygone eras. The shop adds items daily, with a constant flow of fresh merchandise. Part of the mission of the store, is to ask questions about the goods we have in our lives. “I’ve made it a practice to ask myself when cleaning out homes and storage places about the re-usability of items. As the statement has been quoted many times, It is true that one mans trash is another mans treasure” The Plaid Soapbox is located on the Second Floor of the German Trading Post at 2152 N Reading Road in Denver, and is open Thursdays and Sundays 10am to 5pm, as well as Friday and Saturdays 10am to 6pm. They have a Satellite booth located in the Mad hatter Antiques Mall which is just 2 miles north on Reading Road.
