Keith Rocco from Meriden, CT is a 2010 NASCAR National Champion,
has three (3) NASCAR SK Modified championships at the Waterford
Speedbowl, two (2) ACT type Late Model Championships at the
Speedbowl, and too numerous feature event wins in the heart of
Modified country, Connecticut, to list. His next challenge is to
head to the New Smyrna World Series of Asphalt Racing and enter the
American Canadian Tour (ACT) American Racer Challenge Series on
Monday and Tuesday, February 16-17, 2015.
“My Late Model car owner, Scott Fern (Wilbraham, MA) is a big
fan of ACT Late Model racing. That is how I got started in the
fender type cars a few years ago. We have had a pretty busy
modified schedule chasing NASCAR points for the past few years,
although we tried to get to a couple ACT shows, but weather and
other issues kind of put that on the back burner. This mid-winter
trip to Florida and the American Racer Challenge Cup is going to be
a great break. We are looking forward to our first ACT event,” said
Rocco.
Rocco has won some races in the Modified division at New Smyrna
over the years, but he will face a new challenge with vet-eran tour
drivers from both the ACT US and ACT Quebec organi-zations. Both
2014 defending champions, Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. (Pole), Hudson, NH
and Alex Labbe, St-Albert, QC have experi-ence at New Smyrna
Speedway. There will be plenty of competi-tion from the growing
list of drivers who have entered. Former ACT Champions Wayne
Helliwell, Jr., Dover, NH and Donald Theetge from Quebec City will
join Pole and Labbe. Between them they have six (6) ACT
Championships.
“This should be fun and just what our Late Model team needs to
see how competitive we can be in the full fendered car. I was glad
to see that ACT is moving into Connecticut with the recent
announcement that they will race at Thompson Speedway Motorsports
Park. Hopefully, we can have some success and find time to race a
few more Late Model races in 2015,” concluded Rocco.

Keith Rocco Enters ACT American Racer Challenge
The American Racer Challenge Cup is a two-day event with twin
100 lap races held on Monday and Tuesday, February 16-17, 2015 as
part of the annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at the
New Smyrna Speedway.
Over 24 ACT teams are expected to compete in the $35,000.00
event. Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. won the event in 2010 by a single
point over eight-time ACT Champion, Brian Hoar from Williston,
VT.

Speedway Banquet of Champions
VT’s 2015 Hunting, Fishing, Trapping Lawbook is Available
Shredding Trails on Two Wheels:Winter Fat Biking Gets a Grip in
Vermont
Devil’s Bowl Speedway will officially wrap up its 2014 stock car
racing season with the annual Banquet of Champions on Saturday,
January 31. The event will again be held in the Ballroom at the
Holiday Inn Rutland/Killington in Rutland, VT.
Champions and top drivers from the weekly NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series asphalt half-mile, the inaugural “Battle at the
Bowl” dirt track series, the Northern Modified Challenge Series,
and the Enduro Series will be honored, along with several special
award winners.
For the first time, winners of the annual Sportsmanship Awards
and the all-new Most Improved Driver Awards in each of the four
NASCAR divisions will be decided upon by a vote of competitors,
track officials, and media. A total of 37 drivers have been
nomi-nated for the awards.
In the headline Bond Auto Parts Modified division, Sportsmanship
Award nominees include Leon Gonyo, Jamie LaFountain, Vince
Quenneville Jr., Cody Sargen, Rookie of the Year Billy Lussier, and
Track Champion Todd Stone. Most Improved Driver selections include
LaFountain, Lussier, and Sargen, along with Jason Durgan, Jason
Reome, and Joey Roberts.
In the Late Model class, Seth Bridge, Tommy Eriksen Jr., and
Carol Parker are each nominated for both honors. Jamie Aube,
Bucko Branham, and Champion Jamie Fisher join them on the
Sportsmanship ballot, while Robert Bryant Jr., Emily Packard, and
rookie Scott Coburn are on the Most Improved ticket.
Sportsmanship Award nominees in the Renegade division include
Jared Blake, Tony Putzier, and Champion Robert Gordon, while Ray
Benoit, Richard Lowrey III, and Jim McKiernan are up for Most
Improved. Stephen Donahue, Randy Howard, and Rookie of the Year
Scott FitzGerald sit on both ballots.
The Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stock class has Lance
Masterson and Kyle Watrous nominated for both awards. Sportsmanship
candidates also include Matt Monaghan, Jake Noble, Rookie of the
Year Andrew FitzGerald and Champion Chuck Bradford, while Most
Improved contenders include John McCarron, Kyle Sorensen, Harold
LaVair, and rookie Shaylynn Senecal.
Other prestigious annual honors to be presented include the
Dedication Award, the Award of Excellence, and the John Bruno Award
– Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s highest honor.

Frankenbike. Mutant. The two-wheeled equivalent of a monster
truck. Those descriptions and more have been applied to Vermonters’
hottest new way to enjoy the cold: Fat Bikes.
“We’ve seen exponential growth in Fat Bike riders coming to
Vermont from all over the East Coast,” said Tim Tierney, Executive
Director of Kingdom Trails in East Burke. “A few years ago, only a
few companies made Fat Bikes. Today it would be hard to find a
manufacturer who doesn’t. That growth really dem-onstrates that
folks love to pedal and Fat Bikes appeal to a large and growing
number of people. It’s easy to get hooked.”
With their extra-large tires, wide rims and unorthodox
dimen-sions, Fat Bikes are specifically designed to traverse snowy
trails—and any terrain that would mire ordinary bicycles. Extra
tire tread adds grip and prevents the wheel from sinking into soft
surfaces such as sand and snow. Fat Bikes require lower tire
pres-sure than regular mountain bikes—10-15 psi or even lower. That
significant squish reduces the need for suspension and allows the
tire to “float” over surfaces rather than dig in.
Vermont’s vibrant biking culture has plenty of room for this new
addition to the trails, and Fat Bike events are popping up
throughout the state. On Dec. 7, the Catamount Outdoor Family
Center hosted the first annual Global Fat Bike Day, the official
kick off of the Le Grand Fat Tour. Fat Bike enthusiasts enjoyed
demos, races and a scavenger hunt.
The Le Grand Fat Tour is a six-event series that spans the
Quebec-Vermont border. The tour continues from now until March with
events in Stowe and East Burke in Vermont; and
Coaticook, Bromont, and Oka in Quebec:Jan. 3 Uberwintern, Stowe,
VTJan. 17 Le VeloNeige de Coaticook, Coaticook, QuebecJan. 31 Le
Jour de la Marmotte, Bromont, QuebecFeb. 15 Oka Festival, Oka,
QuebecFeb. 28 Winterbike, East Burke, VT“Fat Biking has been
exploding in the northeast!” said Ryan
Thibault of Mountain Bike Vermont, one of the organizers of the
Le Grand Fat tour. “Our Winterbike event now attracts over 300
participants, many of whom are Canadian, so we decided to part-ner
with our Qeubecois friends and create a series that spans the
border.Our goal is to introduce new riders to the fun of winter
cycling while highlighting trail networks that have embraced the
sport. This year we’ve received overwhelming support from the
riding community and businesses eager to get involved.”
For people who are curious about the strange-looking bikes, the
Resolve to Revolve Fat Bike Demo Day will be held Jan. 1 at Kingdom
Trails in East Burke. The truly committed can find weekly rides
with the Fat Wednesday evening group at the Catamount Outdoor
Family Center in Williston, starting Jan. 7.
In February, the Fat festivities continue with Ride, Glide &
Rawhide; a Valentine’s Day race at Kingdom Trails that celebrates
several winter disciplines. On Feb. 22, Fat Bikes will make their
debut at the 70th edition of the Stowe Derby. One hundred Fat Bike
riders will navigate Stowe’s hillside terrain and sprint down the
scenic rec path before crossing the finish line at the center of
Stowe village.
