Pro Li fe Paczki (Poonchkey) time is already upon

us. The Christmas trees have barely been taken down and it’s time for those delicious jelly filled paczki before we begin Lent on Ash Wednesday. The price is the same as last year: $5.00 for a box of

6 paczkis from Bobak’s - 2 apricot, 2 straw-berry and 2 blueberry. All profits will stay here for operating expenses for our Pro-Life Committee. The sale will be the weekend of February 9/10 after Masses. We have or-dered 100 boxes, more this year hoping we won’t run out again and hoping all who buy will enjoy them.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The song of the angels, “Holy, Holy, Holy,” re-sounds from our lips at every Mass. There was a wide-spread belief in the first religions of the world that God stirred creation into being by a word, a song, a musical note. Music and a sense of God’s presence have always been inseparable. In the liturgy, your voice is invited into this song as the priest names the reasons for our praise. “Heaven and earth are full of your glory,” and we are not passive onlookers, but participants in this glory. Catholic prayer no longer assigns this angelic hymn to a choir, but gives it to you to sing. Even if your voice is thought to be suitable only for a well-insulated shower stall, you are called into this song. We are born to sing—just listen to a baby testing the full range of newly-discovered vocal abilities. Soon we get shushed and hushed into quiet, and given lots of messages that our voices are unwanted, and that we need to raise our hands in order to be heard. All of that is overturned in lit-urgy, the place where God waits to hear us come alive in the song of all creation. In heaven, everyone’s in the choir; why not start practicing now? —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Attent ion Altar Servers An Altar Server meeting will take place in the Church, February 9, from 11:45 am—1:30 pm Attendance is mandatory for those who have signed up to be altar servers. See you there. Fr. Anthony

KNOW THE MASS, ONE WORD AT A TIME Direct Perhaps you never noticed, but the Mass we celebrate together on Sundays is loaded with directions. The priest or deacon or commentator directs the congregation in many ways. “Please stand.” “Let us pray.” “Bow your heads.” “Lift up your hearts.” “As without end we acclaim . . .” “Go forth, the Mass is ended.” In so many words, they direct us to pay attention to God whom we have come to worship or to go and live out our faith. At times, we all need others to direct us and guide us on a right path. They are living reminders of our movement on the journey to God. The directions we hear and take at Mass prompt us to pay attention to God who wants to direct and accompany us in the whole of our lives.
